Astrid's exploration of the power plant had been pretty successful, even if she'd also nearly had a heart attack in the process. So, brimming with a bit more confidence, she decided to try and branch out a bit. This time, her destination was the lava rock caves in the cliff face near the volcano. Getting into them had taken some doing, but now that she was here, she noted that the interior was remarkably cooler than the rest of the area around the volcano. And dark. Couldn't forget dark. "I...should probably have brought a flashlight," Astrid said, once she was deep enough in to realize just how dark it was. Fortunately, though, it wasn't completely impossible to navigate. The light from other cave entrances, faint as it was, was enough to give her some guideline to where walls and obstacles were. Just so long as she didn't trip over anything.

Of course, she had to think that. Mere seconds later, Astrid managed to notice a rock right in her path, just in time to avoid actually tripping over it. She was certain that if she'd said that thought out loud, there wouldn't have been any 'just in time'.
After struggling for a second to avoid losing her balance after the sudden stop, Astrid took a cautious step back. She looked for the barely visible silhouette of any more rocks in the immediate area, to see if she could freely step over or around it. As she did, the 'rock' in her path lifted itself up just a little bit and, with the sound of tiny skittering feet and rock dragging against more rock, disappeared into the darkness.
Huh.

The silence that followed the moving rock's departure lasted for only a second before a high-pitched squeaking met Astrid's ears. She turned towards the source, instinctively releasing her Magnemite from its ball in the process. In doing so, she found something small and (once again) at eye-level imposing itself in front of the faint light up ahead. A few sparks from Magnate's body lit up the cave enough for Astrid to see the 'something' for what it was: a bat. A tiny bat with no eyes.
That...was kind of cool, actually.
"Hey, Magnate, let's try catching this guy. Use Thunder Wave!" Astrid said. The Magnemite flew towards the bat, getting close enough to sent a weak jolt of electricity through it before it could fly out of the way. The electric current didn't damage the bat, but instead numbed its body, causing its movements to lock up. It struggled to remain in the air, but did manage to smack Magnate with one of its wings before dropping onto a rock. For all the good it did, since the big ball of metal barely noticed.
"Now, Discharge!" Astrid called out, not giving the bat Pokemon a chance to recover. An electrical pulse erupted from Magnate's body, spreading through the inside of the cave until it hit solid rock. Fortunately, there was no solid rock between it and the bat, so it took the attack full force. But still, it valiantly attempted to fight back from its current position on the ground, creating star-shaped projectiles of light around its body and firing them off at Magnate. Again, they did very little, clanking against the solid metal for chip damage before bouncing off.
"One more time! Discharge!" Astrid called. Magnate released another electrical pulse, zapping the bat one more time. By the brief flashes of light from the electrical surge, Astrid was able to locate where it had fallen, and pulled out an Academy ball to throw at and hopefully catch it.

Wiggle. Jiggle. Smeegle.
Click.
You caught the damn bat! Also, you got a picture because it was pre-uploaded months ago. Lucky you. Remove a ball from your pouch!
