Wow, the beach was fantastic. Richard hadn't experienced it, having lived in Castellia City which only had piers. Even with the piers, however, the water wasn't this clear. He took a minute to take in the sights before he stopped himself since this was not what he was here for. He was here to expand his team, not to gape at how nice this place was.
Despite being pretty sure about the weakness and strengths of his Turtwig, he figured he could use a refresher, so he took out a notepad and opened it to its most recent page. On it, had a bunch of garbled nonsense, while the particular sentences he was looking for was written largely, neatly, on the bottom right part of the page. 'Liara isn't particularly strong against anything being a normal type, so take advantage of typing and use Kaidan; stay away from flying. poison, fire, and ice.' He snapped the notepad shut; so he was remembering correctly. He figured that even if something goes wrong with Kaidan, at the very least Liara wasn't weak or strong against against water types. So he kept on walking, looking to encounter something.

As he walked, he wondered why it had been so quiet. This was clearly the right place, so why had it been so peaceful? That notion quickly became null as he saw something in the water around 20 feet away from him. Well, not actually in the water. Half of its body was in, the other half was on the sand, belly down and eyes closed. If he didn't know any better he'd have thought it dead. He noticed that, as he approached it, it still refused to move or even open its eyes. So, he took the time to log it in his Pokedex.
Dratini, the Dragon Pokemon. This Pokémon is full of life energy. It continually sheds its skin and grows steadily larger. "Wait, dragon?" He said in a relatively loud voice. His voice only caused the Dratini to stir in what seemed like its sleep, which Richard was thankful for. Last thing he wanted to do was wake it up while he was close. He had been looking for a Water Pokemon, but this would do too. But the issue now was actually getting it to realize he was there, without pissing it off entirely. While taking a step back, he kicked a bunch of sand onto the Dratini, which caused the thing to get up. The Dratini wasn't happy, which Richard took note of and immediately stuck his hand in his bag in order to get one of his Pokemon.
It turned out to be Liara, his Eevee. Despite him wanting to train his Turtwig, he knew he had no right, or time, to complain about it. Next thing he knew, the Dratini was coming at his Eevee with an Aqua Tail. Before he could even say anything, without any hesitation, the Eevee flashed its Baby Doll Eyes at it, making the Dratini hold back a bit, causing it to deal less damage.
"G-Good Job, Liara! Now give it a bite!" He told her. She complied and bit down as hard as she could, and then backed off. The Dratini angrily tried to use its whole body to Slam the Eevee, but it missed. He breathed a sigh of relief and then called out to the Eevee again. "Bite it again!" He said, and she ran back in to bite it again. The Eevee got Aqua Tailed again, but it hadn't stopped it from still bee-lining straight for the Dratini and did some more damage with another bite.
It certainly seemed like the Dratini was getting tired, but his also Eevee looked like it could barely take another few Aqua Tail's to the face. When the Dratini moved back in to Dragon Rush, Richard held his breath. When the Pokemon managed to miss for the second time, he decided that maybe it was time to do something drastic to keep it down. "Liara, Double-Edge!" He commanded, and though it was reluctant to follow that order, it did anyway and it hit the Dratini dead on. Liara was hurt with recoil, and was barely standing up.
He took this chance to throw an empty Pokeball in hopes that it'd stay in.

Richard held his breath. He was panicked; if that dratini didn't stay in that ball it probably would've finished Liara off. Or it could've simply run away and he would've lost it forever. So he stared intently at the ball hoping for the best case scenario.
The ball shook once, then twice, and one final time before it stood still. Richard felt as if his heart was going to jump out of his throat, but when he heard the click he breathed out deeply, his entire body relaxed, and he noticed that Liara sat down to recuperate. He thanked her for everything and returned her to her ball to relax, though he knew she needed mire after that.
He picked up the ball with the dratini and put it injustice bag. He couldn't help but feel awful after this despite getting a new Pokemon. If he had problems with just a single wild Pokemon, what would battling other people be like?
