Round One...FIGHT! (Battle/Chris)

Though she probably should have done the smart thing and gone out to catch some more Pokemon, Adriel couldn't help herself. She had seen some of the battles being televised in the Commons, and she couldn't wait to try one out herself. As such, she wandered aimlessly throughout the Battle Dome, looking for a potential challenger. Admittedly, she was a bit intimidated at the thought, especially since she only had her two starter Pokemon. Also, most of the students probably had more experience with battling than she did. Still , it was too exciting for her to pass up, so here she was. Now all she had to do was wait; which was a little easier said than done. She never was very patient when she got excited.

So... Here we are again at the battle dome... It brings back memories of the last defeat, but that's in the past and forgotten, can't let the past make Chris less determined to win the next battle. Chris wondered around the dome, looking for someone to battle against in which he'd be able to stand a decent chance... Most people here probably were much more experienced battlers, so it made sense that Chris didn't want to go up against them.
In this case, Chris didn't have either Dusk or Argos outside of their pokeballs like he usually would, he figured the presence of an evolved pokemon would draw in more attention from more advanced trainers, which wasn't what he was after here.

As she continued to look, Adriel spotted someone who stood out a bit; a rather tall guy with silver hair. Based on the color of his uniform, she concluded that he must be from the Mana Dorm. Well, she wasn't getting anywhere standing around and waiting for someone to challenge her, so she figured she might as well make the first move. Maybe they'd be understanding if she simply explained that she was new here, and therefore only had her two starters. It was worth a try, at least. Not like she wouldn't already be at a big disadvantage either way.
Thus, she approached the tall male, greeting him with a a friendly smile. "Hey, um... I'm kinda new here, so I only have my two starters. But I was wondering if you'd like to battle. I've kinda been looking forward to having one since I got here." She paused, waiting for a response, though she decided to quickly add one last thing before he'd be able to say anything "Oh, and by the way, my name's Adriel. Pleased to meet you~!" And with that, she awaited his response. Hopefully, it would be a positive one.

Well, this is certainly a surprise, a novice wanting a battle before they've even caught a Pokémon... well... it wouldn't be right to decline such a request to battle now would it? certainly wouldn't be polite, that's for sure... anyway, back to the matters at hand. Chris shrugged somewhat, carefully looking at the girl, not in a way which would be considered strange or staring, but more like analyzing, working out what could be worked out from first glanced. Fom what could be worked out at first glance it appeared as if she was from the nature dorm... which means grass types, overall not a bad type to go up against, considering Chris has a flying type, an ice type and a fire type, although to be fair, he wouldn't use Dusk in this battle.
"Anew student then... well... I guess there isn't a problem with getting some early battle experience before heading for captures... so I suppose I have no problem with battling. Give you only have your starters, I presume they are both not evolved is that correct? And before I forget to mention... I'm Chris, Chris Thyodor" Chris spoke as a response to the girl, his face lacking emotion the entire time... guess it's time to get some experience for the other Pokémon among the team.

Well then. He was kinda emotionless, wasn't he? He didn't seem like a bad guy, though. Plus, he more or less agreed to battle her, so in the end she couldn't complain. Making her way to the nearest arena, she nodded. Eager to get things started, she started things off by sending out the first Pokemon she planned to use; her Golett. The golem-like Pokemon looked around, and upon realizing what was going on, prepared itself for battle. Finally, it could punch something other than a random tree or a boulder. They were nice at first, but it got a little boring after a while.
Adriel nodded, ready to start her first real battle at the academy. She'd be lying if she said she wasn't nervous as hell. Honestly, she found herself wondering if every new trainer, whether or not they were a student here, felt this way. Still, there was no way she was backing down now. It was time to see what her Pokemon were truly capable of.

Taking position in the appropriate arena, Chris couldn't help but smirk slightly upon seeing the golett, ghost type is pretty much one of the worst you could use here, given the majority of his team are dark types in some shape or form. Reaching for Midnight's Pokeball, to Chris's surprise Dusk burst forth from her pokeball and stayed on the sidelines, making it clear she wasn't going to fight, but observe. Chris chuckled to himself before sending out his Pokemon, Midnight appearing from the pokeball and taking flight.
"To avoid any confusion, Dusk, my Weavile is simply observing... Anyway... Guess I'll start us off, Midnight, use Sucker Punch, let's take this one down quickly" Chris stated, Dusk merely nodded while Midnight followed the order, swooping down from above and aiming a powerful peck at the golett.
(action taken: Midnight used sucker punch. Base power 100, 150 with stab, super effective makes it 300. No rolls required due to 100% accuracy)

Adriel saw the Murkow and blinked. That was a pretty small Pokemon, so she was rather confident about her Golett's chances. Which made what happened next all the more shocking. She could only watch in awe as her Golett was instantly taken out by the Murkrow's attack "...w-what? I know it's my first battle...b-but how was that attack so powerful?!" While she was aware of the basics (i.e. Fire beats Grass; Grass beats Water; etc), she didn't quite have some of the more complicated Type matchups down. As such, she had no clue that her Golett lost because of its weakness to the Dark-type Sucker Punch.
Still, she shook it off. So her strongest Pokemon was instantly taken out. She was still in this battle...more or less. Returning her Golett, she sent out her second and final Pokemon, a Budew. "Okay Valentine! Let's do this!" She then paused for a moment, then looked over to Chris "Er...do you want to switch?...or is it okay if I attack?..." If it wasn't obvious before, it definitely was now; she was very new to this.

Midnight flew back over to Chris, who smiled at his Pokémon approvingly of what she had just done, sure she did have an advantageous type against the Golett... but still, she did quite well. listening to the opposing trainers words and surprise, Chris found himself pitying the girl... she clearly didn't know how it worked, so he guessed he'd might as well help. "Golett is part Ground, part Ghost type... Murkrow is part Flying part Dark. Dark type moves are super effective against Ghost type Pokémon, which pretty much doubles the damage Dark types deals. Since Sucker Punch is a dark type move, it's power was also amplified due to being the same type as the user, making it even stronger. I would advise you study up a bit on type match ups." Chris spoke as a response to her words, trying to explain why the move had been able to one hit K.O her Golett.
When she sent out her Budew and asked if he'd like to switch, Chris merely nodded, wanting to allow her to get in an attack at the very least... even if it is against a Fire type. Recalling Midnight to her Pokeball, he then took out Argos's Pokeball, sending out the Growlithe. "Feel free to attack, Pokémon can't attack at the same time they are sent out if not to replace an already defeated Pokémon... sorry about the bad type match ups... I was planning on training these two before you asked for a battle" Chris said towards Ariel, While Argos began barking fiercely in order to intimidate the Budew.
(Actions taken: Recalled Midnight, sent out Argos. Intimidate activated, lowering enemies attack)

Adriel blinked as Chris took a moment to explain what had just happened, and she smiled, seeming to understand. "Ah...I see. Thanks! I'll be sure to do that!" As mentioned before, she was at least familiar with the concept of weakness and resistances; she just didn't know much beyond the basics and common logic. Either way, Chris sent out a Growlithe, causing her to frown. She was vaguely familiar with this Pokemon, enough to know that it was a Fire-type. Against her Grass-type Budew, that was kind of bad. But then she remembered looking up one of her Budew's moves and learning something fairly handy. Thus, with a nod, she called out to her Pokemon.
"Alright, Valentine, use Stun Spore!" The small Pokemon quickly complied, the buds on top of his head opening up and releasing a cloud of paralysis-inducing spores in the Growlithe's direction. With luck, this would hinder its mobility; just enough to give the Budew at least a small fighting chance. --------------------
Summary - Budew used Stun Spore - Grass-type, 75% chance of inflicting Paralysis
_BL3Gw411-4 If the die lands on 1-3, Stun Spore succeeds; if it lands on 4, it fails. 1-4

Well, she certainly seemed grateful for the explanation, so that went over rather well, anyway, focus on the battle. The spores ended up coming into contact and taking affect upon Argos, causing him to growl in annoyance... this is going to a stalling tactic isn't it? let's just hope he can bring her down quickly. "Argos, use Fire Fang if you can, bring it down quickly if at all possible, to prevent stalling tactics" Chris ordered, the Growlithe nodded, and advanced towards the Budew, his teeth coated in pure flame, if this actually connected, well, it could be pretty deadly against the Budew, given the species isn't all that strong defensively, and Growlithe is a pretty solid species statistically, especially offensively.
(Actions taken: Argos was paralysed. Attempts to use Fire fang. Base power 65, increased to 97.5. super effective makes it 195. accuracy is 95 percent so rolls are below)
(if it's 1-3, paralysis doesn't activate) rO4AgJWi1-4 (1-19 = attack hits) 1-20 (if 1, enemy is burned) 1-10 (if 1, enemy flinchs) 1-10 1-4·1-20·1-10·1-10

Crap. It seems he saw through her strategy. Even worse, it appeared that it didn't even work, as the Growlithe was still able to attack. Unsurprisingly, the Budew went down instantly, just like her Golett did. Well, can't win 'em all. Letting out a sigh, she returned her Budew to his ball, and looked to Chris with an awkward smile "Well, that was a disaster. Guess I wasn't as ready for a battle as I thought I was." Adriel was, if nothing else, a graceful loser. Naturally, she didn't enjoy being delivered such a crushing defeat, but she knew sitting around complaining and/or moping wasn't going to accomplish anything.
Either way, she gave Chris a nod "Looks like I still have a lot to learn. When I have a stronger team, maybe we can have a rematch? I'd like to have one some day, if that'd be alright with you." Hopefully, it wouldn't be as one-sided next time around. Regardless, it was something to work towards, and would definitely give Adriel the incentive to train her Pokemon that much more.

So it's over... that was quite an easy battle actually, with both of my Pokémon having advantages against hers, even if Growlithe went down somehow, Midnight would be able to finish things off quite quickly with a Wing Attack. Anyway, she certainly understands that there is much to learn and much to improve on, which is certainly a benefit. Carefully listening to her words, Chris found himself nodding before speaking. "If you want to have a rematch at some point, I'm quite willing to accept... and if you need any help with anything, just see if you can find me, i'll see if I can help, admittedly I'm still rather new here myself, yet I don't see the harm in trying to assist where possible" Chris spoke as a response as Argos ran over to him, causing him to smile down at the Growlithe.
Recalling Argos and then Dusk to their pokeballs, I turned as if I was preparing to leave, although glanced back towards her. "if you need me, I'll often be down at the ruins, so you can find me there" He spoke before walking away and out of the structure.
[Chris has exited the thread]
