Into The Woods [Battle/Tanya]

The pleasant sounds of the forest had always managed to make the entire atmosphere calm which was perfect for a battle. The ghostly chandelier floated beside her as he listened intently to the sounds of the forest. Some of those trees looked like good punching bags, but it was best to practice at an open clearing as there would be more space and plus, the trees wouldn’t get hurt anyway. After a couple of minutes of walking, the duo found a good open space and with a few tree stumps around. Her Vibrava would probably need some practice for this battle, so she could take part in future contests too. With another click, the Vibrava was sent out and was happy to get some fresh air. In the future, the recently caught Vibrava might be the best thing that will happen if she evolved into a Flygon, she just needed to get some battle experience first.

Dani had insisted on coming to training. Tanya didn't really know why, but didn't question it as she was flanked by Dani on one side and Natalia on the other. Dani looked deadly serious, keeping her eyes around for something that Tanya didn't really know. Natalia on the other hand looked pumped, ready for training and having a youthful excitement that Tanya was glad wasn't lost from when she was a Oshawott.

Making it to the clearing, she was surprised to see that someone who wasn't Seria or Astrid was there. "Alice?" Tanya said rather incredulously, Dani tensing at the sight of the Vibrava and Chandelure. On the other hand, Natalia leered at the two of them and started jumping in her spot, moving into a battle stance.

"I wasn't expecting to see you here." She said bluntly, crossing her arms and pursing her lips. "I was actually gonna come here to train. Hey, you've got pokemon with you as well. You want to battle?" Tanya asked, Natalia already jumping in front of her, leering at the Vibrava.

"With the way Natalia is, I think it's going to be hard to say no." Tanya admitted, chuckling a little and raising her arms. Dani frowned at Natalia, sighing to her herself in exasperation.

Tanya's Team: Natalia the Dewott, Brock the Rhydon, Seria the Duosion.

”I guess if Natalia wants to battle, then I guess I’ll have Sekhmet battle with her as well. The dragonfly buzzed in agreement as she looked over at the battle-ready Dewott. Already, that Dewott looked like she was ready to pounce on something. The ghostly chandelier decided to watch the entire battle from the sidelines as he wanted no part in interfering with someone else’s training. The otter looked kind of mean, though that must be her personality and her interaction with her Vibrava suggested that she might be having a rival in her. The dragonfly was willing to try her best in this battle and she probably had more experience in battle while she was wild. The Dragalge beside Tanya looked kind of exasperated from the Dewott’s recklessness, but it kind of looked funny from a cartoonish standpoint. Either way, this battle would be good practice for the next tournament that might be held in any day now.

Action: Sent out Sekhmet the Vibrava.

"That's the Vibrava from the mission, is it not?" Tanya remarked, remembering the Vibrava on the Mawile mission. Shrugging, she got herself ready to do the strategy she had already been using for quite some time. Natalia seemed to know the ropes and was barely just holding herself back from battling, her spunky attitude showcasing to the others in the area.

"In any case, set up a Swords Dance Natalia." Tanya said, Natalia doing an odd little dance, getting out her shells and using them as well. As the dance went on, her shells seemed to become sharper and there was a sense that the pokemon grew stronger at all as she smirked jeeringly at the Vibrava.

Action: Natalia used Swords Dance! Harshly raises Attack!

And the otter did a little dance which was a bit concerning since that would mean that her attacks would hit hard. "Yes, I caught her during the mission. She's really friendly with me." The dragonfly buzzed back in response, though she wanted to show no emotion while a battle was going on. However, the dragonfly seemed to be composed during the battle, so it was a plus. "Sekhmet, use Dragon Breath!" The Vibrava shot out a yellow and green beam from her mouth and this attack might have a chance of paralysis. She had remembered in another battle that luck was not something she should rely on, but sometimes it might help out a little. Besides, that kind of luck just might turn a few battles around or it might come back to bite her.

Tanya realized that Natalia was suffering from the effects of Vibrava's attack. Unable to move, Natalia looked in pain as the paralysis started to sink in. It was a minor inconvenience at best for now, as Natalia still had a chance to act. However, if her luck was anything like Vivi's when she battled her, there was a strong possibility that she could be paralyzed twice in the row, which could easily mean curtains for her.

"Try an Aqua Tail!" Tanya commanded, feeling tense as the Dewott tried to jump into action. Should the paralysis not kick in, Natalia would run towards the Vibrava and jump in the air, flipping once and smashing her tail against the pokemon's temple, damaging it. If not, she would be unable to move, glaring at the Vibrava with gritted teeth.

The attack caused the paralysis which was good. The bad news was that the Dewott charged at the dragonfly and slammed her tail onto her temple, causing the dragonfly to recoil back in pain. Even so, luck might be a fickle mistress to some trainers that relied on attacks that had chances of causing that particular effect. After a while, the dragonfly fell to the ground unconscious. "Good job, Sekhmet. Take a rest." The dragonfly was returned back inside her Pokeball and she pulled out another Academy Ball containing her Servine. "Claude, you're up. Use Leaf Blade!" The Servine was sent out and leaped up into the air, slamming his tail down onto the otter. She had a feeling that the Dewott was angry that she had been paralyzed and in actuality, paralysis was a helpful condition which could buy her some turns depending on if luck had managed to turn the tides.

Action: Sekhmet fainted. Sent out Claude. Claude used Leaf Blade!

Bringing down the Vibrava, Tanya was about to quickly relish in her victory when a Servine came on and promptly dealt with Natalia, who flew backwards from the intensity of the attack and knocked her out. Returning her to her pokeball, Tanya considered what she should do next. She could try and go for the Megahorn with Rhydon and hope the attack hits, but that would basically leave the Rhydon in risk of being OHKO'd by the Servine. Her other option might take longer, but could hopefully lead her to victory.

"Seria, set up with Calm Mind!" Tanya called out, sending out her Duosion, Seria. Appearing on the field, she closed her eyes and focused her mind, strengthening her special abilities and boosting her special attack and defense. Unfortunately, she couldn't do much about increasing the defense unless she used her turns to set up Reflect and Light Screen, but she felt that as not the best strategy she could use.

Action: Natalia fainted! Seria is sent out and uses Calm Mind! Increased Special Attack and Special Defense!

The Dewott was defeated and a Duosion had taken her place in the battlefield. This Pokemon also had a name after a Nature Dorm student she had met previously, but there was no time to think about that now. The psychic Pokemon boosted its offense in Special Attack and Special Defense by one stage and it was likely that she would hit harder with that kind of boost. ”Claude, use Coil!” The serpent with limbs coiled as the boosts began to take place and this would effectively be able to get more power for his physical moves. The Duosion had posed to be a threat with her increased Special Attack, but it was probably the best thing to do with an offense and defense boosting move before attacking the opponent. For once, she might have to play it smart instead of attacking recklessly and getting some of her Pokemon defeated.

Action: Claude used Coil! Attack, Defense, and Accuracy increased!

Coil? This was an interesting revelation. Tanya had expected the Servine to be defensive like her Serperior, but was it more suited for offense? Maybe she should've taken the hint at the use of Leaf Blade. That left the question of whether or not she should attack. Was it a smart idea for her to attack immediately? Realizing she wanted to be on the safe side, she made the decision.

"Seria, use Reflect!" Tanya called out, interested to see how the strategies would work. Seria flicked her body outwards and let out a cry. As she did so, a translucent barrier was erected in front of her, reducing all of the physical attacks the pokemon would receive. Tanya wasn't really sure how effective they would be, but at least it was better than being taken by surprise.

Action: Seria used Reflect! Reduces all Physical Damage by 50% for 5 Turns!

The Duosion had protected herself from physical attacks using Reflect. Interesting. It was no doubt that his attacks would not be as effective on the Duosion if Reflect had to be on, but it was worth a try to go on the offensive. ”Claude, use Leaf Blade!” The Servine leapt up into the air again and slammed his tail down onto the floating psychic Pokemon and it was worrisome that the damage might be mitigated. Going on the offensive may not be a good idea when Reflect was involved, but it was better than wasting a turn to boost his offense and defense once more. There was no telling what the Duosion would do next, but she might be increasing her defenses so that she would last longer on the battlefield.

Even with the Reflect up, the girl still elected to go on the offensive, attacking Seria with a Leaf Blade. While it did look slightly damaged by the attack, a lot of the impact was mitigated by the Reflect, leaving her in a stronger predicament. Tanya still didn't let down her guard and knew that she had to make the next attack count.

"Seria, attack with Psychic!" Tanya declared, Seria concentrating on the Servine and using her psychic powers to throw the pokemon around and inflict as much damage as she could. With the Boost from Calm Mind and Seria's high Special Attack stat, she knew the attack would hurt a lot. What she wasn't sure was whether or not the attack could finish her off.

Action: Seria used Psychic!

Unfortunately, that Psychic pretty much did a number on Claude and he fell to the ground with the trademark spirals in his eyes. ”You did well, Claude.” She returned the Servine back inside his Academy Ball and got out her Doublade’s Academy Ball. “Take the stage, Isabeau. The grand finale awaits.”[/color] The dual swords unsheathed herself and glared at the Duosion, determined to avenge for her fallen friend. “Use Shadow Claw!” Immediately, Isabeau began to slash at the Duosion while a trail of dark ghostly energy was left in the attack’s wake. Even though it was a more effective attack, the damage would be once again mitigated by the Duosion’s Reflect which proved to be frustrating to no end. Even so, the Doublade would have to fight until one of them had been counted out of the fight. Still, the Duosion’s defensive maneuvers were making it harder to defeat her in this battle.

Action: Claude fainted. Sent out Isabeau. Isabeau used Shadow Claw!

Now more than ever, Tanya was thankful that she asked the Duosion to put up the Reflect. Once the Servine went down, it was promptly replaced by a Doublade, which promptly went about attacking Seria with a STAB Super Effective Ghost attack. Were it not for the reflect, Seria would've most definitely fall. Instead, she hung on with an inch of life left, shaking a little due to the intensity of the attack.

"Come on Seria, do as much as you can with Shadow Ball!" Tanya shouted, knowing that the next attack was going to hurt. Seria conjured up a ball of shadows in front of her, concentrating with all of her power as the ball materialized in front of her. From there, she shot it at the Doublade, panting once she had finished with the attack. She had to admit, she thought that the Duosion would've been knocked out by now.

Action: Seria used Shadow Ball!

The attack had hit, but the Duosion hung on with a sliver of life. And the Duosion had launched an orb of shadows that some of her ghosts had as their primary means of attack. The Doublade was hit by the orb and she promptly fell to the ground where a clanking sound could be heard. At least, she did a good job at almost defeating the Duosion and the others had to be trained more in order to get stronger in future battles. The ghostly chandelier had seen everything that had transpired and floated back to her side, staring at the unconscious Doublade. “Take a nice long rest, Isabeau. You’ll need it.” The dual swords were promptly returned back inside her Academy Ball and she put the Academy Ball away. ”That was a good battle and your Duosion did a good job.” Losing that battle in the first round of the tournament had changed her strategy, but it was a matter of going on the offensive in most of her battles.

Action: Isabeau fainted. Tanya is the victor.
