Elena stopped in front of the door the held the items that she would need to rest in. She had yet to see the inside of the room, and yet this was where she was to stay until she was ready to make her mark. She silently stared at the door as if the gaze would somehow open the door. That wasn't her intention, but it seemed like it was anyway. She was merely going through this in her mind, and having possible second thought. Was she really doing the right thing?
Elena shook her head vigorously. Of course she was! There was no turning back now anyway, because everything was already set. Turning back now would be horrible on the staff, and an all around cowardly thing to do. Now the only matter was when to grab the knob and open it. Would she wait out of fear, or get it over with?
At that moment, she glared at the door and grabbed the knob, turning it in an instant. As soon as she opened the door, she could've sworn that she saw something scurrying around the room. Elena arched an eyebrow for a moment, but she brushed it off in the end before placing her bags on her bed. She then sat on the bed, lying on it with her legs draped over the side.
She suddenly felt a force beginning to move her legs, and she found herself back first on the ground. Elena sat up a little, rubbing her head when she found herself face to face with a small, yellow creature, and gasped. What was this Pichu doing here? "Hello," she spoke gently. "Who are you?" The Pichu's ears twitched as a giant smile formed on its lips. "Pichu!" She squeaked before running off of Elena's belly (she was still laying down?) and ran to the mirror. There was no way that that Pichu could've moved her legs, right? It was so tiny!
However, the real culprit was near the mirror as well. It was a grey cat-like Pokemon, looking at her reflection, relishing in just how 'fabulous' she looked no doubt. While she thought the cat looked cute, fabulous was not a way she'd describe it. She knew that the Espurr, as the Pokemon was called, was the culprit when it used confusion to lift up a book to prop herself up on. The Pichu started clapping and giggling while Elena was still bewildered.
Suddenly she noticed that a note was placed neatly on a desk near her bed, and she opened the letter. "Dear Elena Morbury," it read. "It has come to our attention that you have not received your first/second Starter Pokemon. In this academy, we require that each student start with two Pokemon, one with a type that matches the dorm, and another of your choice. We have read your application and we've picked two Pokemon that we find will meet your requirements fine. The Pichu is named Sparkle. She's social, but very timid and doesn't like to fight. The Espurr is Jayna. She is a very loyal, but vain companion. She can be a handful, but very reliable none the less. We trust that you'll have the patience to handle these two. It was required that they paired together because they were so close. These will be the Pokemon that you'll start your journey with. Signed, The Grey Academy."
Elena looked at the note and back at the two Pokemon playing around. They didn't seem like the ideal Starter Pokemon, but she was stuck with them. All because she didn't have one yet. What in the world had she gotten herself into?
