Name: Cody 'Silent' Knight
Age: 13
Date of Birth: 14th of November
Birthplace: Mossdeep City, Hoenn
Gender: Male
Sexual Orientation: Bisexual
Face Claim: OLIVER from VOCALOID
Appearance:
Distinguishing Features: His left eye, under the bandages, seems slightly off. It doesn’t exactly ‘look’ at people, nor does the lens adjust to the brightness of light. In certain light it even flashes somewhat reflectively. This is due to his left eye’s lens being plastic after surgery. He is blind in this eye.
Height: 5’0”
Character Type: Student
Personality: Cody is a quiet boy. He speaks very little and, unless he needs to or particularly feels like speaking, he’ll rather not speak at all. He is not mute, nor shy, but he speaks little due to wisdom passed down his family: ‘Words are like water. Words constantly dribbled have very little strength without a lot of volume. It is the words restrained until they are released at the right time that contain power’. Due to his silent nature, he has become very good at conveying what he wants or means without words, using body language and hand gestures to get his point across. When that fails, he normally carries around a notepad and pen to write what he’s trying to convey. Despite his normal silence he occasionally sings to himself, a talent few know he has. For his amusement, he has taken his silent voice and became extremely stealthy, able to sneak up on people without a sound. He likes occasionally standing or following right behind someone and seeing how long it takes them to notice. He likes simple practical jokes like this, where no one gets hurt but he still gets a silent laugh.
Cody is slightly above average in intelligence and common sense for his age. He generally gets above average grades, but nothing outstanding or particularly noteworthy. He is kind and friendly, despite his silent nature being occasionally confused as anti-social by others. He prefers to be reasonably tidy and usually does as he’s told, having been raised to be reasonably polite and well-mannered by his grandparents. Due to his grandparents he also likes tales and stories, especially involving travel. He adores the sailor cap his grandfather gave him and, unless swimming or sleeping, it is rare to see it off his head.
He enjoys his own unique style. Though the bandages over his eye are unnecessary, he likes having them on if only to see people’s reactions and curiosity at what is underneath. He tends to be a bit clumsy occasionally, particularly if someone approaches him from his left side where he can’t see them approach. He finds it difficult to judge distances and thus is pretty bad at games which focus on catching things. He is a strong swimmer though, having grown up enjoying swimming.
Ultimately, he is a silent, nice boy who has a love for tales and things to do with the sea.
Likes: Water type pokemon, being quiet, charades, his hat, being stealthy, the Sea, stories, swimming, fishing.
Dislikes: People taking his hat, games of catch/dodgeball/anything where objects are thrown at him, judging distances, loud obnoxious people, people who mock his height, rude people, being forced to talk when he views it isn’t necessary.
History: Cody was born to a relatively normal life. His father was a captain of a ship that often helped the local marine biologists, of which his mother was a part of. Being a captain ran through several generations. His great grandfather was a captain, his grandfather and great uncle were captains, and when his parents had a daughter his father was sure to at least teach her how to drive a boat. When their next child was born completely blind in one eye, having surgery too late to fix this, his father knew Cody wasn’t going to be a captain but nevertheless cared for him as any father would.
He grew into the habit of wearing bandages over half his face as his parents tried to encourage eyesight in his left eye, and once it was shown sight wouldn’t develop he switched to the more practical side. He spent a lot of time with his family, liking the history and tales of the open seas his grandparents told him, originally to distract him from the bandages when he was getting used to them. He was raised on his family’s wisdom and took in their advice, often from his grandparents as his parents usually had long hours of work. He learned that many words made little point, and thus spoke little unless he had something to say. He often went to the beach and swam with his older sister in summer, becoming a strong swimmer. As he grew up, he befriended a number of local pokemon and enjoyed his life, spending the days fishing, going to school and swimming in the ocean.
At eleven his grandfather gave him his much treasured sailor cap, a constant to him when he’s not swimming. Meanwhile, his father was trying to think of a way to encourage adventure in him. He wanted his son to see the world as he did once. Thus, he decided his should go learn to be a trainer. He gave his son fair warning, letting him prepare. At thirteen, Cody found himself at Gray Garden Academy, ready to learn to be a trainer.
