Mine is the Morning {Berries}

As soon as she was certain that picking berries in the orchard was actually permitted to students, Annie took a field trip into the woods over by the Nature Dorm to do just that. It was not particularly near to her own dorm, but it was nice to go for a wander around the island. She let both of her Pokémon out to walk with her on the way, keeping a watchful eye on them to ensure that nothing went wrong.

At last, the little party arrived at the orchard, and Annie went to pick some berries. She didn't yet know how to identify any berries by sight aside from the Oran Berries like she had in her bag already, though she had heard their names said and remembered what some of the effects associated with those names were, so she wandered the orchard, plucking a berry here and a berry there as she found ones that looked interesting. She showed each of them in turn to her Pokémon, who showed signs of approval, before placing them neatly in the Berry Pouch.

Cradling an egg in her arms, Annie wandered into the berry orchard, trailed by a little parade of Pokémon. She was up to four now, and they were all Ice-types. The likelihood that the egg she had been handed was also Ice-type was slim, but she looked forward to finding out what it was.

Annie turned to her Pokémon and suggested to them, "How about each of you go find a Berry you like?" The four of them scattered, and Annie herself grabbed a Berry off of a nearby bush. Within minutes, all her Pokémon were back and each had a Berry. Cheerfully, Annie stored the berries in her bag and headed out, chivvying her Pokémon ahead of her.

Berry-picking time: that was always entertaining.

In some ways, Annie liked the sunny green atmosphere of the forest. Not well enough to live there full-time, of course, but well enough to enjoy these visits. She suspected that the egg she held in her arms liked it too, especially given what Ms. Brennan had said about eggs hatching better with warmth.

Today, she walked through the forest with her hatched Pokémon still in their Poké Balls at her belt. She felt like she needed the solitude, and they were all Ice-types who weren't that crazy about the warmth of the sun. Though Tomislav might have appreciated it.

Coming to think of this, Annie released the Snover to walk beside her. The berry orchard was a good place for the tree-like Pokémon, she thought, absentmindedly picking a few berries to add to the growing stash that she carried in her Bag. She had heard rumors that Snovers sprouted berries in the spring, themselves. What a thought!

She glanced at Tomislav. Perhaps she would find if the rumors were true, come spring.

"Sekai no tomo to te o tsunagi..."

Annie, singing under her breath, carried her egg from breeding class, which she really hoped would hatch soon, into the berry orchard. She was starting to remember what some of the berries she saw were. Not that there was anything wrong with any of them; every kind of berry had its delightful value and function.

"Jyujika no moto ni tatsu warera..."

She continued singing as she plucked a certain number of berries (five, as always) from their respective bushes. Hopefully she would eventually be able to make full use of all of them, rather than just the ones whose only use was to earn money.

"Kami no mikuni o me a te to shi..."

Annie wasn't completely sure why she was singing this song. She wasn't even certain why she knew it, though it was certainly not something she was making up on the spot. Not that it really mattered; it was a nice song.

"Shu Yesu no michi o susumi yukan."

Her stay in the garden hadn't been long at all. With the last line of the verse, she let herself out back into the greater forest.

Once more into the breach... or, rather, the completely nonthreatening berry garden. With her egg in hand (and it shook so! Annie was certain that it would hatch soon, and looked forward to the event) the Ice-type Trainer made her way through the garden.

The berries were still plentiful enough. Annie plucked one after another, until she had a decent handful. Large and ripe and perfect, in case she ever found need for them. They went into the drawstring pouch where she kept her berries.

On the way out of the garden, Annie thought she saw something moving under one of the bushes, but it was probably just her imagination.

Annie had awoken from a bizarre dream in which she was pretty certain she had been an assassin. It wasn't necessary a bad dream, as such, but it was highly disconcerting and had instilled in her a strong desire to do something normal, routine, and non-murderous. Like, say, picking Berries.

It was very early, just past dawn, and Annie hadn't actually bothered to put on her uniform beyond an identifying blue jacket over her pajamas. She let herself into the berry orchard and began plucking berries, placing them into the bag that she had just barely remembered to bring with her.

Another week, another berry-picking expedition. Annie and her Pokémon wandered into the orchard. This provided the girl with an opportunity to look over the team she had assembled. Dusana, her beloved Snorunt, clearly needed an opportunity to evolve. The newly evolved Weavile Senka only confirmed that for Annie: Senka was as mischievous as ever, but also much more powerful. Then there was Zlatan, innocuously resembling a pillow as Swinubs so often did but capable of growing into something much bigger and stronger; Marin, the jolly little Spheal she had caught fairly recently; and Matija, the inscrutable Cryogonal who was the most recent addition to her team.

"Go out and each choose a Berry to bring back," Annie told them all, and all rushed off to their task except for Matija. The Cryogonal didn't even seem to have noticed anything.

The other Pokémon returned, each carrying a Berry. Annie praised them, and they trooped back off towards their home, leaving the Trainer to wonder just what was going on with Matija.
