So your character has been accepted and you're ready to start RPing. What can you do? Well, this guide should cover the majority of that.
Creating a P.C.
The first thing you need to do after your character is approved is create a P.C. Much like the games, this will be where you will be storing and keeping track of your Pokemon and items.
When listing items, keep the following in mind
1) Each student/staff member receives a Starting Pack, which contains the following items;
• Academy Ball x5
• Potions x5
• Revive x2
• TM Case (empty)
• Berry Pouch (comes with 5 Oran Berries)
• Map of the Island
• PokeDex
2) You are free to include any personal items, like laptops or whatever. As long as it isn't an actual item that has any effect on the Pokemon in any way, we're cool with it.
How you list off your Pokemon is up to you. When doing so, please remember to include the following information
1) You need to include the following for each Pokemon:
• What species it is
• Its gender
• Its Ability (it can only have one)
• Any items it's holding
• It's Normal Moves
• Any Extra Moves it knows
• Sprites are preferable, but not required
2) It may also be a good idea to keep track of your Pokemon's battles here via links for when you want to evolve them.
Picking a Dorm Room
So, you've already picked your dorm, but you still need to get your room. Each dorm in the academy has a male and female side. Naturally, your student will be "assigned" to whatever room that you want. Each room supports two students, meaning no more than two per room. And naturally, no rooming with the opposite sex. To get your room assigned, simply make a room request in your corresponding dorm's rooming chart. This is where all the rooming arrangements are kept track of. Simply make a reply there with your requested room number.
Allowance
As part of the tuition for Gray Garden Academy, students can receive a bi-monthly allowance of 1,000 credits from the Financial Aid Center located in the Commons. Students may pick up their tuition any time during each two week period. However, should they not pick it up in those two weeks, the money will not carry over into the next two week cycle. For reference, the cycle began OOCly on June 15th. From there, it resets every other Sunday. In order to pick up one's allowance, simply make a post stating that you are picking up your character's allowance and a mod will mod it and add the money accordingly. Please keep all posts contained in a single thread for each character.
How To Obtain Pokemon
Obviously, in order to build a team, one needs to add Pokemon to it. After all, that's one of the most basic elements of the entire series...obtaining a Pokemon so you can train it to become stronger. As such, there are three main ways to obtain Pokemon on this site.
1) Catching it with a Poke Ball. Basically, what you do is start a catching thread, and wait for a mod to make a Pokemon appear. Said mod will list of the Pokémon's moves and Ability...but that's it. Here, catching threads are done in a "Solo" style, meaning that everything that transpires in the thread once the Pokemon appears is up to the one doing the thread. It can be an epic battle, or a heartwarming moment in which a bond is formed. Either way, it will be up to you how to go about catching it. If the mod doesn't see anything wrong, with it, then they'll accept it and allow the capture to take place.
However, if you dislike the Pokemon that appears, then you may pass on it and request that another one show up. This can be done twice, meaning you can encounter up to three Pokemon per catching thread. If you encounter a third Pokemon, you must interact with it in some way, regardless of whether or not you plan on capturing it. Whichever Pokemon you decide interact with and/or capture, the thread will immediately end, meaning you cannot battle/catch a Pokemon, then move on to encounter another.
Different areas have different Pokemon that can be spawned. You can find a complete list of what Pokemon can be found where in each explorable area. There are also special explorable areas that require HM moves to access. These areas tend to have more powerful Pokemon readily available to catch.
In any case, there are some minor rules when it comes to catching threads. The first being that you can only do two threads per week. The second is that you can't do more than one at the same time. This is largely to make things easier for the mods, as well as prevent spamming for free credits.
2) Events/Mission rewards. During certain events and in some missions, Pokemon may be given out.
3) From other trainers. It can be in a trade, or you can find someone who's willing to give a Pokemon of theirs away...or maybe even sell one. In any case, there's only one rule for this sort of thing. You are not allowed to trade/give away/sell a Pokemon to one of your own characters. It must be someone else.
4) Finally, one may obtain Pokemon from eggs. Eggs may be obtained from events, classes, or from breeding. You can find a guide on breeding Pokemon in the Egg Guide.
Pokemon Locations
Naturally, certain Pokemon can only be found in areas where it would make sense to find them. Each area has a list of what Pokemon spawn there so you know what Pokemon you could possibly find when doing an exploration thread there. It should also be noted that certain Pokemon can only be caught through fishing, which requires the purchase of one of three fishing rods in the Trainer Shop.
On these spawn lists, Pokemon with an asterisk next to their name are deemed as "rare" Pokemon and have a smaller chance of spawning than normal. The only exception to this is when exploring in the "Restricted Access Zones." Each zone requires a certain a certain HM move to access as well as at least two fully evolved Pokemon. It should be noted that in the case of restricted areas, Pokemon that do not evolve will not count towards the fully evolved requirement. Not only are rare Pokemon found more commonly, but Pokemon that are found here are generally one evolution stage higher than the Pokemon found in normal areas.
Important Note: When exploring Restricted Areas, be sure to list your active party as well as the user of the HM required to enter.
Evolving Pokemon
One of the key factors in the Pokemon series, as a whole, is that a majority of the Pokemon one can capture are able to evolve and become stronger. That isn't any different here on this site. What is different, however, is the method for evolving said Pokemon. All evolutions, regardless of the method used to trigger it in the actual games, are handled in the Pokemon Shop via Exp Points. Read that page to find out how the actual process works. But, on that note, there are a few things you should know when it comes to evolving a Pokemon.
1) If you wish to depict the evolution in an actual thread, that's fine. If you wish to do so in the middle of a battle with another student, make sure it's okay with them before going through with it. The only thing I ask is you don't do anything that contradicts another thread the Pokemon might be in.
2) After evolving your Pokemon, you will be allowed to change their Normal Moves. After all, some Pokemon only learn certain moves after evolving, and it would be unfair to force you to buy those moves. However, you cannot teach the Pokemon any moves from its previous evolution. In other words, if the base form of a Pokemon is able to learn certain moves that its evolved form(s) can't, then you cannot teach it any of those moves upon evolving it. (For example, Bulbasaur can learn Seed Bomb by level-up, but Ivysaur and Venusaur can't).
3) As mentioned in the Trainer Shop, a Pokemon you're wishing to evolve must gain a certain number of Exp Points, which are obtained through battling, rare candies, and certain classes. Pokemon that have two stages of evolution require four points to evolve. Pokemon that have three stages require three for the first evolution and four for the second evolution. It should also be noted that you may only use one rare candy per evolution you purchase.
4) In regards to battling for Exp Points, using more than one Pokemon against a single wild Pokemon does not mean each Pokemon will gain an Exp Point. Generally, it will be up to the mod to decide, but, for the most part, it will depend on who did the most battling. Or, if both of them did an equal amount, who landed the finishing blow.
5) Lastly, as stated above if you happen to obtain a piece of Rare Candy, then you can give it to one of your Pokemon. Doing so will give it a free Exp Point. The only limit in this regard is that you can't use more than one for a single evolution.
Teachers and Classes
Teacher are naturally the people who will be teaching the various classes at Gray Garden Academy. There are four positions to teach each of the four available classes, meaning there can be up to four of any teacher. Teacher must be at least 22 years old and can start with a team of up to ten Pokemon. These Pokemon can have hidden abilities (as well as any normal), be fully evolved, have full move sets (included completed move expansions for a total of twelve moves on each Pokemon), and even be shiny.
The format and teaching methods that each class will use is up to the teacher. Students may also jump into different class threads at will. This also includes rewards that may be handed out to each student. Below are a list of the available classes for students as well as a brief description.
Battle Tactics - This is your iconic Battling class meant to help teach students the more advanced techniques in battling.
Exploration - Exploration class is almost always spent outdoors where students will learn to navigate, explore, and survive on their own.
Physical Education - This class doubles as a way to keep students in good physical condition as well as a method to teach them how to keep safe when dealing with wild Pokemon.
Breeding - Breeding class teaches everything from the basics of breeding, to how to hatch your egg, to the perks that breeding Pokemon has. Lessons on where babies come from aren't included.
Dorm Wardens
These are former students who had recently graduated from the academy themselves, and now serve as supervisors at the dorm they once attended. Here, they keep the students in line, and act as mentors. There are four per dorm; two male and two female. They were the top of their class for that dorm, so it's needless to say that they are fairly skilled trainers.
Wardens range from age 19-25 and can start with eight Pokemon. These Pokemon can have hidden abilities (as well as any normal), be fully evolved, have full move sets (included completed move expansions for a total of twelve moves on each Pokemon), and even be shiny. Naturally as that dorm's warden, they need at least two Pokemon that correspond to their dorm's types.
Dorm Badges
Finally, the Gray Garden Academy has a system similar to the "Gym Challenge" seen in many regions. The Wardens of each dorm can be challenged to "gym battles". The rules for the matches vary based on the limitations and intents of each Warden. No two matches will be the same- even with the same Warden. Defeating Wardens in these matches will give you a badge corresponding to the dorm the Warden stands for. Obtaining each badge awards 1,000 PP, a free TM, and one rare candy. Obtaining a total of five badges will also award the student a (Mega stone/fossil/etc) of their choice as well as a special pass into the VIP Club. This area is normally closed off to staff only and is used as a place to simply hang out and enjoy oneself. It also contains a special VIP discount shop that such a student will be able to use.
