Personality: Akira was once a somewhat shy and withdrawn individual, who had trouble opening up to others. She additionally suffered from rather serious self-esteem issues, and didn't have very many friends during her time as a student. Now, she has overcome most of these problems, mostly thanks to the support and encouragement she received from Karin Norling, a fellow student who would eventually go on to become Akira's girlfriend. Even to this day, she still has no idea why Karin chose her, but she's hardly complaining. Thanks to her, Akira is far more outgoing and confident in her own abilities. She's still not a fan of huge crowds, and busy events, but she can handle being in them a lot better than she used to be.
As for her relationship with Karin, that too has seen a lot of improvement on her end. As already mentioned, she still isn't entirely sure why Karin chose her, when there were (in her mind) far better options available. However, when they were still students, she was extremely awkward and self-conscious around her. Not to mention extremely easy to fluster. Actually, she's still easily flustered by some of more perverted things that Karin says/does, but she can handle those feelings a lot more than she used to be able to. Either way, she's still nowhere near as awkward as she used to be, and has come a long way in regards to her own self-confidence. Of course, it was thanks to Karin that she's made this much progress in the first place, so it's only natural that Akira is completely devoted to her the way she is.
Lastly, there is one other defining change since her days as a student. Due to an incident from when she was younger, Akira was terrified of Murkrow and Honchkrow. However, thanks to some much-needed therapy (and in spite of some well-intentioned but ultimately disastrous attempts to help from Karin), she has taken huge steps in overcoming this fear. She still gets very nervous when they're around, but she can handle being near them so long as they don't get too close. The thought of trying to catch one makes her cringe, but it's still a far cry from the young girl who would freeze in terror if she so much as thought she saw one. Most Ghost-type Pokemon still creep her out, and she still doesn't handle things like ghost stories or haunted houses very well (the irony that she's in a relationship with Karin is not lost on her), but that was never anywhere near as bad as her Murkrow/Honchkrow phobia.
Overall, Akira is every bit as friendly as she was back when she was a student, and her love of meeting others and training Pokemon hasn't changed a bit. It's just that she's so much more confident and outgoing that she seems so different to a lot of people. She enjoys having a friendly rivalry with other Wardens, and she is always eager to help out any students who come to her seeking advice...assuming, of course, that the help they seek is something within her abilities. Like before, she abhors bullying and dirty/cowardly actions, both in and outside of a Pokemon Battle. If she catches someone cheating in any way, may Arceus have mercy on the poor fool, for she will not.

She was, within the next couple months, adopted by a pair of women. They were lesbian lovers who lived in the Johto Region...Misaki, a trainer that loved exploring, and would often find things that could be sold for a reasonable price. The other was Eriko, a breeder who made most of the money that they lived off of through her breeding/Pokemon daycare services. When she wasn't off exploring, Misaki would help Eriko with her work, and the two of them lovingly raised Akira as though she were their own flesh and blood.

One of the few blessings about the death of her mother was that it happened almost literally right after she was born, so she doesn't even remember her biological mother. While there was no question that she was adopted, this still allowed her to live her life without the angst that usually comes from the death of a parent. She spent most of her days helping Eriko out in her barn, taking care of Pokemon and helping raise them. Because of this, she is fairly knowledgeable about most species of Pokemon, despite having never actually trained any of them. And at night, she listened to Misaki's stories about her various explorations. As with many children her age, it wasn't long before she began to show an interest in training Pokemon. Naturally, this came as a surprise to absolutely no one.
However, an incident took place that put her plans on hold and, even know, still haunt her. When she was around nine, she was attacked by a swarm of Murkrow, who were led by a Honchkrow. Apparently, they had taken an interest in the shiny robot toy she was playing with. Though Misaki was able to save her before it became too severe, she was still in pretty rough shape as she was sent to the nearest hospital. Thankfully, her physical injuries weren't too severe, but the incident left a deep emotional wound, one that would take years to even start healing. She was completely and utterly terrified of Murkrow and Honchkrow, to the point that it could be considered a full-blown phobia. Needless to say, it took a while for her to recover.
However, in spite of this, her dreams were not hampered. Reluctantly, her parents decided to let her leave home, but it wasn't quite what Akira had in mind. They decided to enroll her into Gray Garden Academy, a Pokemon school where she'd be able to learn about battling and be able to catch and train Pokemon in a controlled environment. Akira was placed into the Lava dorm upon arrival, and, after much debate, eventually decided on her two starter Pokemon; a Charmander and an Aron. The three of them were virtually inseparable, and, over time, her team grew larger and more powerful, battling and evolving. Akira loved every moment of it, and would go on to eventually become one of the best trainers in the dorm.
About halfway through her first year, Akira had a fateful meeting with Karin Norling, a fellow student who resided in the Mana Dorm. Akira was instantly smitten, though, given how withdrawn she was, it took her a while to act on her feelings. Eventually, after an incredibly awkward-yet-heartwarming confession from Akira, the two of them became a couple. In fact, after graduating from the academy, she opted to stay with Karin, often traveling with her when she went off on her adventures (though she generally opted to sit out on anything that looked haunted). Like Karin, she also entered a lot of local tournaments, often doing fairly well in them. All in all, her life with Karin was quite happy.
Eventually, the two of them were approached by academy staff, upon which they were offered postitions as Wardens for their respective dorms. Akira was definitely up for it, assuming, of course, that Karin was up for it. Thus, once Karin gave her confirmation, it took Akira all of two seconds to also jump on board. Admittedly, she never expected to come back to the academy, but, regardless, she is greatly looking forward to this new chapter in her life.
