Here's the nice and very simple guidelines for Island Navigation class. Naturally, they only apply to Kaitlyn's class, and any other/future Island Navigation teachers will have their own guidelines. Notes below give an overview of the class and give any must-know information. Anyone who doesn't read this will be held accountable for anything they do wrong. You have been warned.
Island Navigation does have a classroom, and it does see some use, so Kaitlyn has set it up as she saw fit. The classroom is fairly normal in layout, with desks spaced equidistantly and leaving plenty of walking space between them. They can be rearranged as needed but, most likely, will not be. A number of maps line the walls, of multiple different styles, although most of them are topographical. There is one each of each of the regions Kaitlyn has visited: Unova, Sinnoh, Johto, Kanto, Hoenn, Kalos, and Orre, and one large pull-down general map of Harmonia Island, but the rest are detailed maps of individual areas of the island. All of the detailed maps are designed to be easily moved and transported.
That said, the classroom itself will not be used much. As Kaitlyn puts it, "only an idiot would stick a class about exploration indoors all the time". Classes will primarily be held at open-air shelters on or near other areas of the island, although how much they will actually be used as part of the class will depend primarily on the weather. Kaitlyn will e-mail students of the class location before each session, and post it in front of her office and classroom, so there is no excuse for not knowing.
Classes will typically begin at the beginning of a week, every few weeks, although may vary depending on events or my own schedule. Typically, classes will not coincide with an event unless the latter starts before the class ends. Once it begins, it will be advanced every forty-eight hours, barring circumstances that prevent me from posting in time. Do not count on me being late, though. If you do, I will go out of my way to post on time just to spite you. If you have not posted by the beginning of the third round, you will be considered late and not be allowed any rewards that may be given out in that class. With extenuating circumstances (on the player's part, although having an excuse for the character as well is recommended to help smooth this over) this may be extended to the beginning of the fourth round. If it can be helped, though, do not count on this.
Speaking of which, Kaitlyn typically gives out a free berry of choice every class period. These do not include ones that can only be sold. In addition, she will occasionally give out exploration assignments, which will allow students one more free explore for the week in a specified area. These free explores apply only to the week when the post giving the assignment was posted (unless it was posted on a Friday or Saturday, in which case it can count for the next week), and must be marked as an assignment for Island Navigation. I will be modding these.
Let me say it one more time so that there is no question: You can not get money berries from this class. Kaitlyn does not have them and will not give them out.
This should be a given, but let it be said anyway: Limit yourself to only one post per student per round. This is a class, not a social event. And Kaitlyn will not take kindly to people trying to have their own conversations while she's giving a lecture.
More to come as needed.
First class coming soon.
