Once Tanya was in the arena, she started to stretch her body in anticipation for the coming match. Making sure she was physically and mentally ready, she looked over towards the other side of the battle dome, where Adriel stood. Maybe she was going too fast with her. At the same time though, she was bored and a battle was a good way of getting her to feel good.
"Let's have a good match." Tanya called out, picking up two of her pokeballs and releasing them. From her pokeballs appeared two pokemon. The first was a Rufflet, Derrick. The second was her Carvanha, Nicholai. Derrick stood up, taking side glances at Nicholai, who was once again glaring at his opponent.
"These are my two pokemon. Derrick, take the stage." Tanya called out, Derrick hoping out in front of Tanya while Nicholai looked on bitterly. Christina was still on her shoulder, looking somewhat dissapointed she wasn't battling. "I'll let you have the first move."
Pokemon: Derrick the Rufflet, Nicholai the Carvanha.

Adriel smiled as they arrived. This would be her second time here, her first time resulting in a crushing defeat. Hopefully, things would go a bit better this time around. If she didn't win, then she at least wanted to be able to put up a good fight. Either way, she looked over to the two Pokemon sent out by Tanya and blinked. She recognized the Rufflet, as she often saw them flying around back at home in Unova. The Carvanha was new to her, though. Obviously, a Water-type, but she couldn't quite tell if it was anything else. As for the Rufflet, she knew that most bird-like Pokemon were, unless they obviously had a different Type, Normal and Flying. So that was nice and convenient.
Either way, she nodded when Tanya allowed her the first move, to which she looked to her Golett. "Titan, you're up first!" The Golett nodded, moving into position and preparing itself for battle, while Adriel debated on her first move. Since it was a Normal-type, Shadow Punch wasn't an option, but that left three other moves. Adriel figured she might as well start with the strongest one. "Alright, Titan, start with a Mega Punch!" The Golett nodded, clenching its fist, then charged toward the eagle-like Pokemon. Once close enough, it proceeded to throw a heavy punch at him. ------------
Summary Golett used Mega Punch - Normal-type; base power of 80 (boosted to 96 due to Iron Fist); accuracy of 85%. No side effect.

Tanya was expecting the girl to start off with Golett. It would practically be suicide to start off with the Budew after all. In any case, Tanya already had a plan as to how the match will go. Having a Golurk herself, she knew that the pokemon were able to learn Ice Punch. If she did know that move, that could be very hazardous, especially in the long run. Luckily though, she didn't and instead resorted to using a Mega Punch.
While Derrick was flung backwards by the attack, he managed to soldier on through and stayed upright, flying back into the air and looking unafraid in the face of danger. "Soar through the skies and strike your target true. Attack with Aerial Ace!" Tanya shouted, jumping in the air and slicing through it with her right hand. Derrick began to soar into the air and then fly quickly all around his opponent, swooping in and out to keep the Golett guessing until during one of his swoops, he slashed into the enemy with his talons.

Adriel watched with glee as her Golett's Mega Punch landed, though Rufflet had a reputation for being tough little bastards, and this one was no exception. Either way, she couldn't celebrate for too long, as the Rufflet retaliated with an attack of his own. Adriel didn't know it at the time, but Aerial Ace was a particularly useful move, since it never missed, even if the user's accuracy has been reduced. Eventually, she would learn about how useful that move is. But, for now, she would just assume it was like any other move and that her Golett was simply unlucky and unable to dodge it.
Either way, the Aerial Ace hit, but Titan was still standing strong. Adriel smiled to herself, and called out to her Golett once again "Good job! This time, use Drain Punch!" The Golett nodded, once again clenching its fist, only this time a large amount of green energy began swirling around it. The Golett then, like before, charged toward the Rufflet and threw a punch once it was close enough.
---------------- Summary Golett used Drain Punch - Fighting-type; base power of 75 (boosted to 90 due to Iron Fist); accuracy of 100%. User regains health equal to 50% of the damage inflicted to the target.

Tanya kept her eye on the battle, crossing her arms and confidently looking at how the battle progressed. She knew that Derrick was really powerful, but right now they were just playing a game of backward and forward hits. Maybe she should try some different strategy with Derrick. In fact, when her opponent used Drain Punch, she realized her fight was going to be hard. Maybe she was going to have to rely on Nicholai to win this one.
"Derrick, deal as much damage as you can with Brave Bird!" Tanya commanded, raising her hand up into the sky like a fist. Derrick started to fly higher and higher. Once he reached high into the sky, he tucked his wings in and started to fall, flames starting to appear around his body. Close to the ground, he opened his wings and flew right towards the Golett, his flames bursting into a blue aura that then collided with the Golett. While Tanya hoped that Derrick would be able to knock out the Golett, she had her doubts. She still had a plan for victory anyways.
Action: Derrick uses Brave Bird. No rolls necessary.

Adriel nodded as the Drain Punch hit, and the Golett regained a bit of health as a result of the attack's side effect. However, the look on her face that followed made it rather clear that she wasn't expecting was the rather powerful counterattack used by the Rufflet after the fact. The Golett was hit hard, and left barely standing, visibly shaking as it struggled to stay in the battle. Adriel was painfully aware that there was no way her Golett would be able to take another hit, so she had to end this quickly and hope one more attack would do the trick.
"Titan, use Mega Punch one more time!" The tone in which she said "one more time" made the double-meaning clear. Either they would get lucky and it would take down the Rufflet, or the Rufflet would survive and proceed to take the Golett down. And yet, she was enjoying this battle far more than her first one, of only because it wasn't ridiculously one-sided this time around. Either way, the Golett flenched his fist once more, and charged forward to attack one last time.

Though the Golett stood up still, Tanya still had confidence that she could win. She knew that Nicholai might have a bit of trouble taking an attack from the Budew, but she knew that he should be able to take one hit. After all, Budew weren't known for being offensive powerhouses or anything like that. So when the attack hit and Derrick fainted, Tanya showed no signs of being scared or intimidated about losing.
"Finish off the Golett with a Waterfall." Tanya said, getting out another pokeball and releasing Nicholai to the battlefield. Nicholai shot out a stream of water, aimed towards the Golett and started to swim on top of it, the stream dissapearing behind him. It instead surrounded him as he went on top of it, eventually culminating into a hard collision with the opposing pokemon. For a moment, she considered the possibility before of changing into the Golett's final Mega Punch, thinking that the Rough Skin would finish it off but then decided against it, not up for taking a needless risk.
Action: Derrick fainted and swapped with Nicholai. Nicholai used Waterfall!

Adriel's feelings were a bit mixed. On one hand, her Golett managed to take down the Rufflet, marking its first official win. Which was definitely cool. However, the victory was short-lived, as Tanya's next opponent, a Carvhana, proceeded to finish it off with a super-effective attack. Not surprising, but it sure did put a rain on her parade. Letting out a sigh, Adriel returned the Golett to its ball, then nodded to her Budew. "Valentine, you're up. Give it your all!" The Budew nodded and jumped foreward, ready to battle. After considering her options, Adirel nodded.
"Alright Valentine. Lets start off with a Stun Spore!" The Budew nodded, the buds on his head opening up and letting loose a cloud of paralysis-inducing spores, sending in the piranha-like Pokemon's direction. Adriel nodded quietly, waiting to see if her attack worked. Hopefully, this would make it more difficult for the opponent to attack.
-------- Summary - Budew used Stun Spore - Grass-type, 75% chance of inflicting Paralysis

It seemed the battle was going to be more interesting than she thought it would be. When the other pokemon fainted, she was glad to see that Adriel could think outside of just plain attacking. Nicholai didn't appreciate being hit with the Stun Spore, his body tensing up. The spores caused his body to stiffen up, inflicting the paralysis condition on him. While Tanya did know that the move could miss, she wasn't lamenting her bad luck just yet. After all, there was still a chance for her to win.
"If you can, attack the Budew with Ice Fang!" Tanya ordered, slashing her hand through the air. She knew the attack was going to be super powerful, considering the Carvanha's high attack. While she was hoping it would OHKO the opponent, it was still going to inflict heavy damage. So long as his body didn't stiffen up to the point of inactivity.
If the paralysis didn't kick in, the Carvanha moved towards his opponent, cooling his fangs to the point that they were like icicles. Leering angrily at the Budew, he opened his mouth and tried to crunch the opposing pokemon with his chilled fangs. If the paralysis did kick in though, Nicholai would just glare angrily at the Budew, unable to do anything else.

Well crap. Not only did the paralysis have no effect (yet again) on the opponent, but, once again, but Valentine was once again KO'd in one hit by a super-effective biting attack. "...I'm beginning to think that paralyzing the opponent is a waste of time..." Letting out a sigh, she smiled and returned the fallen Budew "Well, one thing's clear. I need to toughen him up a little." After pausing for a moment, she nods to herself, then looks to Tanya "The beach has a lot of Water-types, right? That sounds like a good place to get Valentine some training...plus having a Water-type on my team probably couldn't hurt..."
Actually, she wasn't quite sure at first, but the more she thought about it, the better that sounded. With a new plan of action, she turned to Tanya and smiled "Thanks for the battle; that was actually pretty fun. I think I know what to do next. Once I have a stronger team, I hope you'll be ready for a rematch~"

And with that, the battle was over. Looking disgruntled, the Carvanha sluggishly made his way towards his trainer, occasionally stopping due to his paralysis. To save her pokemon the hassle, Tanya went up towards him and petted him warmly. Nicholai let out a rare smile as he was stroked by Tanya.
"I don't think the paralysis is the problem. It's just bad luck." Tanya admitted, holding Nicholai's pokeball and putting him back inside. She listened to Adriel talk, smiling at her in a supportive manner. She was glad to see that Adriel was learning from the battle. She tried to think of things she could learn as well, realizing that both of her pokemon were pretty much offensive powerhouses.
"Sounds like a good idea. I'd be up for a rematch when you've improved your team." Tanya replied, suddenly remembering something. "If I can make a suggestion as to what to do after getting a water pokemon, I would recommend getting something that can neutralize Flying and Ice since those moves could easily wreck the pokemon you have at the moment. A Rock type pokemon could be an interesting idea. It also can contribute to adding more power to your team, since water and grass types tend to have higher defenses."
She knew that Adriel was starting out and she wanted to give advice to the budding trainer. If she was already using stun spore instead of just plain attacks, she had a feeling that she could be a pretty good trainer down the line. For now though, she still had quite a journey ahead of her.
