Personality: Cal is usually off in his own little world. You'll find him hiding out listening to music, or scribbling lyrics in his journal. Even during conversations, if he loses attention he usually begins to daydream and this can annoy some people. Though when you can actually keep the boy's attention he's a pretty fun and friendly guy. He loves being outside, surfing, swimming, sun-bathing, hiking, you name it Cal loves it. When battling he seems to be laid back and casual but that isn't the case. Though he may seem not totally passionate that's just the person he is. You could say he 'goes with the flow', just letting things happen the way they will. If he wins great, and if he loses that's fine, at least he learned something from the experience.
Cal is quite tall for his age and looks older than most of the other students, which sometimes garners him more respect than desired. After they actually get to know the student though it is quickly realized how innocent the boy still is. He rarely gets angry, unless woken up or interrupted while listening to a good song. Other instances that would usual anger other people actually don't faze Cal in the slightest which surprises others. Being the laid back person he is, Cal rarely gets into arguments or fights with others. He tends to avoid any conflict and sticks to himself.
This doesn't mean Cal is a loner or outsider, in fact when he does make friends he comes out of his shell. If the other person is outgoing and interesting you can usually keep his attention and have fun adventures or conversations. He loves to party and hang out into late hours (even if it's past curfew). Being a night owl Cal loves staying up into late hours, but hates getting up early. He always ends up being on time though even if he's a yawning mess. He still has a lot of maturing to do and will be the playful daydreaming teenager for quite some time.

History: Being born in a port-city, Cal grew up around water and was swimming before he could even talk. As a young child you couldn't do much to get him out of the water, the boy spending his whole days on the beach and learning to surf when he was of age. Also at a young age Cal grew to love music and writing his own lyrics. Though he wasn't the best singer he loved arranging words and rhyming which was fun in itself. His family was small, just his Father and a much older brother. His Mother had died giving birth to him, and his Father was usually gone at his fishing job. They didn't make much money and didn't have much to offer but Cal was still happy. It was all he knew after all. His brother was quite rebellious, always out with friends and never helping with work. Being so much older than Cal he never wanted to hang out or anything so they became strangers, barely talking unless needed.
Everything was normal until the attack. When Cal was 10 a pack of fire-Pokemon broke into his home. He awoke to his house in flames and as he escaped was badly burned on his hands. His brother on the other hand wasn't so lucky. Drunk after a night of partying the poor boy was killed, leaving an injured Cal and devastated Father behind. The culprit had been a pack of Monferno, why they broke into the house and set it on fire they would never know. Cal's Father had guessed they were looking for food, but why they set the house on fire he couldn't even say. Though his scars healed after many years, he still has fear and dislikes any Fire-Type Pokemon. He knows its not right to blame a whole type just because of one incident, but the boy was traumatized and that is hard to forget. It took awhile but the his house was rebuilt and things went back to normal. It was as if his Father wanted to make up for losing a child and got a new job as a boat salesman. In this city that was a profitable job and they were able to move into a nicer home, and afford things they once couldn't.
Even though Cal loved his home, the memories always haunted him as he walked the streets. He wanted a way out, he wanted a new start. One day as he was listening to music on the docks he noticed a boat with a large banner on it's side. "Gray Garden Academy". It was a simple banner, and he had seen many different academy ads before, but for some reason this caught his attention. After a bit of research he realized this would be the best for him. A new start, in a new place, with people who didn't know him and where he could start over. His Father didn't reject Cal when asked, and a few weeks later he was boarding a ship and waving to his tearful yet happy parent. When Cal stepped foot on Harmonia Island he was a new person. All the memories of the past were behind him and he vowed to be more laid back and just let fate take him wherever it decided. This was his new life.
