Physical Education #1 - Alvis Hartmann

It seemed Cameron was on time today, typical of the muscular teen, as passing by the chance to work out would be completely out of his character. "Welp, time to show off the muscle Bicy." he noted to the Gurdurr beside him. He would take off his shirt now but it was not the time for showing off, no he had to scout for the Coach! The Grand Conductor of the Muscle Orchestra! If he were to show all that he was here in front of everyone then he might see him as unworthy and choose one of these weaklings instead! No, it was best that he wait for the activity and show the Teach then.
He walked closer to the cluster of students, it seemed everyone was in their gymwear, a little part of him expected to see more people in their uniforms. Being used to working out, Cameron wore a plain white tee, black gym shorts and a visibly old, dirtied pair of white sneakers. He didn't need to look good for this class just to be the most fit here. Doing a few quick stretches, he waited patiently for the Coach to start the class.

Alvis blew the whistle a bit more until he finally looked at his watch again. He should have started about two minutes ago, it seemed. With a sigh, he spit the whistle out of his mouth and let his Pokemon continue what they were doing. They would figure out he wasn't watching them. Eventually. The man glanced over his group of students. They were a sizable crowd, each one seeming to be in the uniform. That was good. The man cleared his voice as he had likely not spoken all day and got a closer look at the bunch. There were a few cute kids here and there, but a some of them needed a bit of work. Unfortunately for them, that wasn't his department.
Now, normally the man would have begun his lesson right then and there, but he noticed someone among the bunch that simply didn't fly with him. Walking over to a young girl, he looked down at her with a sour expression. Hey kid, Baby-sitting class is in the building. PE ain't the place for eggs, GOT IT? I don't need you hustling around only to start bawling when you trip and smash the egg of yours. Figure out what you're gonna do with it else you're missing our activity. He chose to keep his cool. Didn't need to show that side unless someone actually did something they would regret. This, at least? It was the first day and the kid likely wasn't too bright. Alvis could at least be an optimist. With a sigh, he backed up and returned to the front of the class while lighting a cigarette.
Finally, he turned around and gave the address he had already planned to. Welcome to PE, or Physical Education as it is formally called. My name is Alvis Hartmann. I'll be your instructor for this class should you chose to stay. You may call be Mister Alvis, Mister Hartmann, Mister, Alvis, I honestly don't care all that much. So long as its respectable enough, I don't give a crap about formalities. Same goes for your bunch. Now, can anyone tell me what PE is all about? This is likely where the other teachers would allow their students to give their thoughts on the question and let them have a shot at the answer. Well, not here. Alvis really didn't care if they knew or not. So instead, before giving them a window of opportunity to answer, the man simply answered it for them. It's definitely not your normal PE class. That much I can guarantee you. This class is here to make sure you stay fit enough to stay healthy and hopefully live to be older than forty. Well, all PE classes do that, don't they? That isn't our only focus though. Being a Pokemon Academy, we take into consideration the other reasons one would need to stay fit. Actually, the man had a good example given that attack that happened not too long ago. Take for example that attack on our city just a little bit ago. that fight that a believe quite a few of you were in. Given that you're fighting people who may or may not have a problem with using their Pokemon to attack something other than another Pokemon; like say another person? You for instance. Wouldn't you like to have some general safety when dealing with those situations? Quite honestly, this class is mostly to help you stay safe when you are out there dealing with wild Pokemon. But situations like the one that happened to arise just recently are just as effective. That being said, these two things are why this class is important! First, physical fitness to keep you healthy. Second, techniques and strategies to keep you safe when dealing with hostile forces whether it be wild Pokemon or those Team Asshole guys as I like to call them. That should have probably sufficed for a class summary, he thought.
Now, if anyone feels like they don't need this class or doesn't think they'll like my teaching style you can leave now. I'll even have my Pokemon wave to you while I continue the lesson. This was something that Alvis would totally do of course. Did he find it entertaining? Maybe. He certainly didn't show it though if he did. That being said, you all at least seemed to bring a partner with you today. That's good, since it was necessary for today's class. If they didn't, they would have heard about it. No, really. He would have been audibly clear about that fact. So, before we get into our first class, we still have some allotted time. Tell me. If all of your Pokemon were unable to fight and you were still in a spot where wild Pokemon were, what would be some skills that would come in handy? What things would you try to do? What things would you avoid? Stuff like that. Just throw things out there. I'll actually let you answer this time. The man looked at his students, waiting for them to say something interesting or stupid. Whichever was fine. Both was even better. It would be a good opener before finally getting started with the "lesson."

Post by Benji Aldaine on Jul 16, 2014 6:11:50 GMT
Benji tapped his foot on the ground, letting out a sigh. Class hadn't started yet which it should have minutes ago. Yet the teacher was still off with his Pokemon, not seeming to be paying attention to them at all. PE wasn't his exact idea of a good time, but he was here and ready for the class so waiting longer than needed annoyed him. Finally the Teacher arrived, immediately approaching a girl and scolding her for bringing an egg to class. Benji thought it was a bit harsh, but understood the reasoning.
He stood up a bit straighter when Alvis Hartmann started addressing the whole class. When he asked the first question, Benji had been ready to answer but was caught off as they weren't even given a chance. Biting his tongue he stayed quiet, listening closely as he gauged this teacher's personality. He sure wasn't the type you'd want to get on their bad side. He'd be sure to watch his words, not really wanting to piss him off or anything.
After explaining everything they were finally asked a question they could actually answer. If they were stuck out with wild Pokemon yet no Pokemon of their own to defend themselves, what could they do? Benji thought for a moment before speaking up. He knew if he didn't get a word out now he'd be cut off by all the other students and probably have nothing to add after them. "I'd think a good thing to do would be resourceful. Don't have a Pokemon? Look around and find something to defend yourself. If the wild Pokemon is aggressive grab a rock and throw it, or a stick to fight it off. If the Pokemon is not aggressive, still show it you aren't scared and stand your ground." He paused for a moment blinking and continued. "I think you should avoid any sudden movements, try to see if the Pokemon is going to attack or if they are just territorial. I wouldn't run either, just slowly back away, facing them and keeping eye contact. Once you are a safe distance away I think it would be a good idea to get out of there."
He added one more thing. "If you have no weapons, can't escape, and are actually attacked I think it is best to stay calm. Try to find it's weak spot, or somehow disable it enough to get away. Panicking won't help, so keeping a level head is best." Benji finally finished and crossed his arms, waiting for the others to answer in their own ways.

Post by Seria Floria on Jul 16, 2014 7:47:35 GMT
Seria blinked as the teacher finally came around after some time and introduced himself as Alvis Hartmann. He seemed rather scathing and an intimidating kind of guy, but it seemed that from what he was talking about, Seria figured he had some well-meaning intentions behind that veneer after all. Regardless, he brought up the recent attack as an example of why it would be a good idea to learn some things from this class. Eventually, Zenith had taken this opportunity to leap off of Seria's shoulders and land on her arms and subsequently her lap. Seria ignored the maneuver, instead listening intently to the question posed by the teacher.
Seria heard some words spoken from a stranger, another student she didn't recognize. Then, she raised a hand (almost like a salute) and had some words to share of her own. "Familiarity with the environment would be one thing for certain," she started. "Sometimes it's not exactly a really smart idea to defend oneself with stones and sticks especially when a Pokemon is already angered. Trying to blend into the environment or using shelters such as climbing trees can help as well when trying to wait for Pokemon to get bored and go away, I think." Seria scratched her head.
"I mean, that's just what I know."

Oleg watched the teacher. He seemed wild, intimidating, maybe even a bit of a bully in some ways. But, he was a teacher. He had to be respected, and maybe he wouldn't be what he expected him to be if he was respectful and professional. The teacher then asked his question, leading to Oleg scratching the back of his head for a moment as he then spoke.
"Well, when I was younger my father taught me some basics like getting something sharp or blunt with you, like a sharpened stick or a big rock to defend yourself, and to then hole up somewhere safe and easily defended until help would come."

Post by Tanya Christianson on Jul 16, 2014 12:01:27 GMT
As soon as the teacher started, Tanya held back a yelp and turned to face him. It seemed like he was berating someone about bringing an egg to class. The man sounded rough and his attitude was intimidating. It made Tanya want to run away and hide, but she had to persevere. After all, she couldn't leave a class just cause the teacher was scary, right?
Tanya stayed silent throughout the entire introduction, holding her Combee close mostly as a way to comfort herself. When he offered kids to leave, she nearly took up his offer. She had to remind herself though that leaving a class was bascially a no-go and judging from how the teacher was, she doubted she would hear the end of it if she left.
"If you know where you're going, you could try to be quiet and sneak your way around pokemon." Tanya offered, maybe thinking that saying anything was a bad idea. "You could also run? I mean if pokemon are out to get you, it might be easier to run away." She probably sounded like an idiot, but she didn't really have much of an idea about what to do.

James contemplated the question for a moment. What would you do if all your Pokemon were unable to fight and there was still a wild Pokemon about? Well, as he listened to the other Student's answers he thought they were silly, or some of them were at least. Like, seriously, going to throw a bloody stone at the Pokemon? Sure fire way to get killed there, you're just going to aggravate the bloody thing! Then you're really going to need to do something, and fast. And what you'll need to do then won't be weapons unless you want to piss it off any further. Either way, this all depends on the Pokemon as well. If it's a Ursaring you play dead and cover your neck, or run down a kill and watch them stumble and collapse. They got short legs, if he was correct, so just run down a bloody hill.
"Don't attack it, because that'll only aggravate it. Best thing to do is not go where you'll be without Pokemon in no time. Always come prepared for the worst." He said, somewhat satisfied with his answer. The teacher wasn't going to point anything wrong out in that, surely not. The only thing he might point out is what if things didn't go well, what if there was a wild Pokemon from another region? Well, that's why you have a Pokemon with teleport. They won't follow you if they can't see where you went, so that would be good to have in reserve.

Post by Richard A. Lambton on Jul 16, 2014 16:44:14 GMT
The teacher seemed intimidating, almost bordering "scary." He looked like a person who was never in a good mood, and that getting on his bad side would be a worse idea than jumping in a Wailord's mouth. Richard started playing with Liara's paws, and when the teacher came over and immediately started yelling at a young girl about her egg he flinched. The teacher wasn't in the wrong, but this made him realize that the class was probably not going to be as fun as he was hoping.
He introduced himself, and asked a question. Before anyone in the class could respond he kept going to explain anyway. He listened intently, though he couldn't help but think that the instructor was one of those people that liked to hear themselves talk. Though there was nothing inherently wrong with that. Despite having the opening to, at least according to the instructor, Richard didn't have any plans on leaving for two reasons. There might have been actual repercussions if he did, and, despite his attitude, Richard knew Mr. Hartmann had a point.
He asked one last question, and seemed to actually expect an answer. Some of the other students had actually said something, but he himself couldn't actually think up a proper answer to the question. Any idea that he could've come up with was mentioned by the other students, and even if they hadn't said anything, he probably would've stayed quiet in order not to make a fool of himself.

Post by Amanda Dupomme on Jul 16, 2014 16:45:47 GMT
Amanda frowned, forgetting her concerns regarding the clothing she wore as she glared at the teacher, angered at his yelling at her friends for an unmistakably stupid reason! Of course she needed to bring her egg with her, there weren't even any expressed rules against it, besides: it wasn't like any trainer in their right mind would leave something that important lying around, and as a teacher at a Pokemon school, he should know that!
''Excuse me?'' Amanda fumed, pacing forward to make herself distinct from the group. ''There aren't any rules against having eggs in class, so why are you yelling at Alice?...'' Her Pokemon cautiously walked up alongside his trainer as she ranted at the professor, a little uncomfortable at the situation she was created.
''...It's not like she can leave the egg anywhere else! You should know this! This is a school for trainers, classes are supposed to accommodate the various needs of the trainers within!''
She finished, angry and red faced as she glared at Alvis, annoyed that one of the staff was such a rude person. Her Pokemon made himself imitate his trainers expression, though his uncomfortable shifting betrayed his feelings to it all.

Seemed this class was already going off to a good start. The Coach was straight to the point, yelled at some mana girl for being stupid, and brought up a good point about what to do when you were all out of usable Pokemon. The Gurdurr huffed in arrogance at the response, but it did get Cameron thinking. "Well, you might wanna have good cardio and endurance, yeah?" he proposed. "Not that you should intend on getting hit, but in case you do you don't want to die because of it." he explained.
This all just reminded him of boxing, and how to counter by reading people's body motions, so he went on. "Also, ya gotta think about the situation. If you are on the wild Pokemon's turf, then they usually would just want you out, so they'd fire a warning shot or growl or something to get you scared to leave, and you should. If it's an aggressive Pokemon though, then they would try and go for the kill, like a strong hit to the head, neck or chest. So when you are trying to get away from Pokemon like that, then you gotta outsmart 'em. Get them to hurt themselves with the environment and tire them out. If it's a coached opponent though." he stroked his chin in thought, it was like fighting someone out of your league, something he hasn't dealt with. "They'd be trained, it'd be hard to do anything, even run, so. . . I'm not really sure on that one Coach. Guess we'll be finding out, yeah?"
Sadly, another student decided to be incredibly stupid. He watched as one of the girls he'd had an exchange with, Amanda, walked up to Coach. "The hell are you doing, girl?" he whispered. He buried his face into his palm with a groan, why did some people think like this. With a groan he whispered, "Hey, stay here Bicy. I'll be right back." he ordered, walking through the crowd and up to Amanda. It seemed he was already too late, and she had spoken her mind.
"Amanda really?" He was dumbfounded and his expression showed, "Don't argue. You aren't gonna do anything. Just- y'know what? Never mind." he sighed in annoyance, moving away so that the Teacher would deal with an unruly student. It reminded him when everyone got on him for asking the Battle Tactics teacher about the whole wheelchair thing. Everyone is so bent on changing people that they forget that they weren't going to change because you want them too. So in the end, why should he care? He knew you shouldn't try to change someone's mind, especially not an adult's. The teacher's already gone through that stage of finding himself, what were you going to possibly do but make them even more pissed and he was supposed to be the stupid one? That went for Amanda too, he wasn't going to waste his breath trying to change her mind. He'd just wait for the Coach's say. " I'm sorry about this Coach, I'll drag her back if you want me to."

Post by Annie Prince on Jul 16, 2014 20:00:06 GMT
It had been a while since Annie had been so inspired to punch someone.
She had anticipated something like this--that was why she had brought Tomislav, to be a calming influence--but she hadn't expected the antagonist to be the teacher.
The class opened with the teacher screaming at someone for bringing an egg to class. For a moment, Annie wondered if he was talking to her. It would have been quite impressive if he were; her egg was safely nestled in her bag, along with all the other possessions she thought would be useful to keep with her, and it would take x-ray vision to even know she had it with her. But no, he was speaking to another girl who carried her egg more openly, and betrayed an obvious incomprehension of how sturdy Pokémon eggs actually were. It was normal for Trainers to carry eggs during their journeys, and they never broke even during strenuous activity. The bullying attitude got right under Annie's skin, with the obviously counterfactual point making it only worse and she found herself petting her Snover to try to calm herself down with the cold.
Her acquaintance Amanda evidently didn't even try to resist losing her temper, much to Annie's quiet approval. She herself would remain as calm as she could--hopefully being quiet would allow her to keep herself in check enough to avoid flying into a rage--but she took one step in Amanda's direction, as a subtle indication of agreement and backup. Annie was already thinking of the situation in terms of the fight it seemed to be threatening to become.
It was possible that Annie might have laughed, quietly and darkly, at the suggestion that the possibility of a Trainer ordering their Pokémon to attack another human was hypothetical. She already knew exactly how it worked, and had plans in place to be implemented should it happen to her again. Not that it was a common occurrence, and once in a lifetime was really plenty for her tastes, but it had happened once and she had inevitably worked out possible ways to survive a second go-round.
The offer to leave was one that Annie seriously considered. She did think that this Mr. Hartmann's teaching style might be... less than helpful. But, still seeing warfare in the situation, Annie suspected that the offer might be a trap. Besides, she was accustomed to dealing with such matters.
She remained silent while people produced their answers to the teacher's question. Her plans for such contingencies were her own, and she refused to take the obvious bait for this petty man's derision.

Everything seems to be pretty normal except that the blonde man looked down at her with a sour expression and scolded her for bringing the Larvesta egg to PE class. Normally, she would respond except that the man began explaining to the class about what PE was about and the invasion. Then, Amanda had stood up for her and angrily said that Mr. Hartmann was being rude. That was a good save, considering that there was a Larvesta egg that both she and her Misdreavus had to care for. And then, some question was imposed about what would her classmates do if they didn't have any Pokemon to fight and a wild Pokemon was still standing. Missy was a bit concerned about the egg, so she let her watch over the egg while she contemplated what kind of answer to give. But, she had to listen to what the teacher had to say about Amanda's argument about being disrespectful to students bringing in eggs to take care of. Besides, she hadn't met anyone who could be this rude to her and she wanted an answer too.

Meili wasn't going to lie, she kind of wanted to leave. But she was here, in gym cloths, holding a solid mound of dirt for her Diglett to rest in. She did have to judge the students for bringing their Pokemon Eggs here. This was one of the last places one should take those things even if they are in egg cases. She is actually agreeing with the teacher here...the blonde wave dorm student from her battle class had other things to say to the point where even Meili is tired of it.
"Listen, what part of physical education are not getting? We're going to be moving around. While Pokemon eggs have been proven to be sturdy I don't think it is the best idea to test that." Meili sighed. "We could just assign someone to guard them while class goes on but that means one person forgoes class activities." Meili adjusted the cap on her head and sighed. "Seriously...you need to learn to put a lid on it."

Crispin just sighed deeply as the drama started, pulling Cecillia up into his lap. It was far, far too early for this, and it drove all desire for him to actually answer the question right out of him. His Snubbull looked around at the other angry students, confused, and tilted her head as she tried to make sense of it all. As far as the Trainer was concerned, all he could do was ride it out until the teacher took care of the unruly students and was able to start the class.
He still couldn't stop himself from raising an eyebrow in amusement towards the fact that a Phys Ed teacher that would (assuming, of course) be focusing on health lit up a cigarette right there on the field. It was a good thing he wasn't concerned in the least about second hand smoke. Other than the fact the teacher was... more than a little eccentric, he didn't personally have much of a problem with him. Crispin had seen plenty worse assholes in his life, and one teacher that got angry with a student for not thinking ahead was not at the top. Could he have gone about it better? Sure. Was he obligated to? No, everyone had different personalities. Whining about it wasn't going to change anything, just add salt to the wound.

Noise- not the noise of the instructor, but of all the students- was welling up. The girl was finding herself a little annoyed. Adolfina was not one to tolerate the idiocy of people. However, were she to excuse herself, she'd be missing the point of this class in its entirety. That would be unacceptable. However, this man seemed to be. . . easily excitable. If only for that reason alone, she was sure he could handle someone barking back at him. It was reassuring, too. A teacher that could be walked over would fail in the delivery of their lessons, she believed. Focusing instead on the question, she decided to give her own response.
”In the words of a soldier, 'Proper planning and preparation prevents piss-poor performance'. Ideally, the situation you've laid out won't occur, but things just don't work out like that. If being properly prepared doesn't cut it, then the best you can do is take into consideration why you're in that situation, then use that information to prepare to combat it in the future.” Then, going silent for a moment, the girl tilted her head to the side and sighed. It looked like she was disappointed- with herself, though. ”As for staying alive long enough to make use of that, I'm coming up with a blank, but I guess this class will help with that.” The girl finally concluded with a nod, content with relying on the teacher. After all, she didn't really know how to defend herself unless with her Pokemon. On the (exceedingly small) chance that she was in a situation like that, the best she could do would be running.
