Power Trip [mod]

One would have thought that getting into an old, abandoned power plant would be more difficult. With the possibility of exposed wires, broken equipment, and still active equipment around, Astrid was expecting to have to force her way in or not be able to get in at all. But no. Pokemon were here, and they apparently weren't too strong for a new student to handle, so she was able to just walk right in. Once she did, it became obvious that the place wasn't quite as bad as she had expected. There were clear paths, at least, and she was able to walk around without worry of tripping over much of anything more dangerous than an Electrode.

Which, itself, was probably a bad thing. But there it was.

It wasn't quite tripping over anything, but after awhile Astrid did find herself following a strange shape in the distance. She had approached it out of idle curiosity, but once it disappeared around a corner she felt drawn to follow it. After awhile, however, the floating pokemon found itself at a dead end and Astrid was able to get a good look at it. It was a strange pokemon, humanoid by the loosest definitions but floating level with Astrid's head, with green reflective eyes and a forehead as large as the rest of its body. The Pokedex identified it as an Elgyem, and claimed it to be an alien.

And that was all the convincing Astrid needed.

"Magnate, you're up. Here's to our first fight together," Astrid said, releasing her Magnemite from its ball. "Start us off with Magnet Bomb!" Magnate fired off a couple of magnets in response, as though they were missiles. They homed in on the Elgyem's forehead, then exploded the moment they stuck to it. The alien pokemon recoiled from the damage, but was undeterred and quickly fired off a counterattack. Small orbs of energy shifting between several colors at once appeared over its eyes and at the tips of its arms, creating a disorienting effect as they gathered, then shot all at once at the Magnemite. Astrid could tell at the moment of impact that something had gone horribly wrong. The orbs made nasty crashing noises as they hit Magnate's metal body, and sent it careening into a nearby wall. It floated back up, but was clearly having trouble levitating and remained, wobbling, close to the ground. "Oh crap," Astrid said. "Oh crap, oh crap, oh crap...um...Discharge! Don't hold back!" Astrid called up. It took a second for Magnate to wind up in its damaged state, but it still let loose a wave of electrical energy, which surged over the Elgyem and knocked it to the ground as well. Not wasting a moment, in case it could get up again, Astrid pulled an academy ball from her bag and threw it at the downed alien pokemon.

Nope.

The Elgyem broke free of the ball! Fortunately, or unfortunately, the Pokemon remained. Fight or flight, make your decision!

Oh...crap. That was not good at all. Just when Astrid was about to breathe a sigh of relief, the Academy Ball broke, and the Elgyem broke back out. It hovered back up to head-level, clearly weakened but not nearly as much as Astrid had thought. Magnate was in much worse shape, though, and wouldn't be able to take another hit from that weird energy. Astrid just had to hope that it wouldn't use the attack again. "Not good, not good...Magnate, can you still fight?" The Magnemite gave a weak nod with its body. "Good...that's good. Let's try shutting it down and hope for the best. Thunder Wave!"

Sparks erupted from the Magnemite's magnets as it flew towards the Elgyem. Electricity arced towards the alien pokemon's body as it passed, paralyzing it. It still manage to move, though...at least as far as hovering in place and calming its mind could be considered moving. It had clearly done something, but since that something didn't involve it breaking her robot buddy, Astrid continued the attack. "Discharge again!" she called out. Another surge of electrical energy erupted from Magnate's magnets, washing over the Elgyem. This time, in response, it moved a lot more, generating an aura of psychic energy around its elongated head and crashing into Magnate with it. Astrid held her breath as Magnate again fell to the ground, hoping to Arceus or Reshiram or whatever higher power of choice might be watching over her that it would get back up. But, perhaps thanks to its steel body, it survived, and weakly floated back off the ground. "Come on, we're almost done! Discharge!" Astrid said, prompting the Magnemite to launch another wave of electricity.

The Elgyem dropped to the ground after the last electric shock, but stayed standing. It raised its hands, attempting to gather more energy for an unpleasantly familiar attack. Then, all at once, its body seemed to lock up, and the energy dispersed. Seeing that this was the last chance she was going to get, Astrid called out for Magnate to hit it with one more Discharge, then once it had done so threw another ball.
