Name: Vivienne Montmarche
Age: 13
Date of Birth: July 13th
Birthplace: Laverre City, Kalos Region
Gender: Female
Sexual Orientation: Bicurious?
Face Claim: Madoka Kaname from Puella Magi Madoka Magica
Appearance:
Distinguishing Features: Would a sly smile and mischievous giggle count? Most likely not, considering she doesn't really have many distinguishing physical characteristics.
Height: 5’1”
Character Type: Student
Personality:
Some people seem to think that if a girl likes to smile and talks in a gentle voice, she must be a doormat or some pathetic moe hanging around to be someone’s damsel in distress; that line of thought has duped more boys into doing what Vivienne wants them to do than she cares to count. At a young age, she learned that by shedding a few alligator tears she could get nearly anything she wanted from the grownups of the sleepy little “city” she lived in. Vivi, as her friends get to call her, might present herself as a Kalosian wallflower, but she’s much closer to a creeping ivy once you get to know her. She particularly dislikes when people try to assert authority over her or demand respect without earning it; similarly, she finds brutish types of people, and Pokemon for that matter, to be boring and uninspiring. A lot of her negative emotions don’t show on her face or even in her tone for that matter, instead either manifesting as either backhanded compliments or bottled up for future purpose. She has no qualms playing cruel pranks on other people, particularly those who get on her bad side, and Vivi’s rather good at getting away with it.
That isn’t to say that Vivienne’s soft spoken to lull people’s guards in the first place; it’s merely a side effect of her general disposition. For people with the patience to listen to her and not try to talk over her during what would most likely be a slow paced conversation, the clever mind and tongue the girl has can become apparent. The fact she’s a bit of a juvenile delinquent, not so much. Vivi’s sworn to be on her (relatively) best behavior to her grandparents, who footed the tuition and travel money to send her to school and spare her parents worrying about her on an adventure or getting into more trouble with the police at home than a few somewhat harmless pranks (or acts of domestic terrorism, depending on your outlook).
Likes:
Pulling a fast one on people- There’s something so satisfying about pulling a prank or getting some petty vengeance that can put a wicked little grin on Vivienne’s face and get her giggling. At this point, it’s even a matter of pride for her to flex her skills at it. If the Gray Garden Academy doesn’t work out, then maybe with her skill set some Ninja School might take her in…
Fashion- Vivi’s a Kalosian girl from one of the more fashion forward areas, even if Laverre city was on the border of a swampy forest. She tends to modify her outfits slightly or accessorize them just so when she gets up in the morning; her morning routine is practically religious for her.
Pokemon Stylists and Coordinators- People who prove that Pokemon can be more than trained attack dogs for any nitwit ten year old a Professor deigns to give a starter, Vivi admires these types and aspires to be one someday perhaps.
Fairy Pokemon- Her favorite type, due in no small part to their cute and deadly nature and the overabundance of them in her homeland and home town. She adores their adorable appearances that hide their wicked natures.
Sweets- Vivienne's got a sweet tooth. Hell, she's got a whole mouthful of them. Chocolates, glazed cakes, donuts. It's a miracle the girl isn't overweight yet, but maybe her workout regiment counteracts that.
Dislikes:
The Po-Po – Considering Vivienne’s been in trouble with cops for a few harmless pranks here and there, she tends to be….put off by the appearance of men and women in uniform. While she doesn’t take security guards super seriously, if a policeman pops up, she tends to get a little antsy.
Fighting types- Her least favorite type of Pokemon, considering they tend to fall on the uglier side of things.
Serious people- You know the sort, the kind who think they have to be out to save the world twenty four seven and constantly do good. Especially those who aspire to some sort of noble idea; if they don’t even have enough sense of humor to laugh at Vivi’s occasional sarcastic jip, then friendship is probably a lost cause.
Coffee- "Dislike" is too mild to put the girl's distaste for the stuff; she can't even bear to swallow a mouthful of latte or cappuccino. Give Vivienne a decent cup of tea or a tooth achingly sweet hot chocolate.
History:
Laverre City, nestled on the edges of some seriously creepy swampland, is known for it's slight eccentricities and the Pokeball factory to the north of the place proper. The forests surrounding the area are beautiful, and the architeture is harmonious with the nature and quaint. It is, in essence, the kind of place that is great for visitors and tourists. Locals, on the other hand, can get less than excited to see the leaves change or the flowers bloom when that kind of thing is expected.
Vivienne Montmarche's parents owned a smaller inn that catered mostly to traveling trainers who didn't feel like staying in the Pokemon Center and sleeping on the stiff cots and bunkbeds that were the norm there; tourists too, sometimes honeymooners from the bustling Lumiose or from as far away as Kanto or Hoenn. They were, or should have been, happy. Vivienne, meanwhile, grew bored with that life. She can't exactly pin down when she figured out that swiping the occasional Pokeball from someone's pack, or better yet filling it with swamp mud, was fun, but by the time Vivienne was seven or eight, she was a regular little grifter. Everyone was liable to tip the cute little girl who put fresh flowers in their room, and if they didn't it was swamp mud in their clothing or something little swiped.
Her parents didn't catch on to Vivienne's habits too quickly, since she had already figured out that would spoil the fun. Besides, with her baby siblings taking up so much time she had to find ways to entertain herself. She'd go adventuring in town, and found herself to be a charming little actress for travelers and beg for treats or goodies from total strangers. In retrospect, Vivi has to admit she could've gotten into a lot more trouble in those days, but Laverre was the sort of place that made you feel secure. You never expected someone to be a kidnapper or do anything THAT bad in such a magical place. It wasn't until she befriended a wild Klefki that some of her activities became noted by people. Though the pair remained hidden, their activities escalated in impact and notoriety. For her twelfth birthday, the pair vandalized the Pokeball Factory after sundown, mostly with graffiti and a little minor property destruction.
Unfortunately for our criminal masterminds, they were actually caught that time. Though her parents had been busy with the twins, now four years old, they weren't stupid. Especially when her mother came across the treasure trove she'd been acquiring in an old dollhouse. She'd had her moments, but up until that point neither of the Montmarches were really aware of just how naughty their oldest child could be when left to her own devices. She found herself under lock and key, which proved fruitless in the end; one of the devices on Klefki's link wasn't a key at all, but a lock pick. Self taught though she was, Vivienne was a bit of a natural. Of course, what she couldn't see coming when she snuck her friend in was her Grandfather.
As far as she could remember, he was just a bit of a surly old man who didn't visit nearly as often as his wife, her Nana; she found out why that day. Grandfather Montmarche was the chief of police for Lumiose City, and when his son had called, unsure of what to do with his delinquent child, the old man had taken a personal day to visit his granddaughter. He wasn't half as easily fooled by the girls crocodile tears or the way she and Klefki apologized, probably given the open lock. The old man actually hauled the girl into the Police station and locked her up there, his Arcanine easily overpowering the Klefki that tried to come to her aid. While the option to send her to a boot camp of sorts was available, her parents were strictly against it.
The following year saw the whole town's disposition change to the girl and her Klefki when it became public knowledge the sweet little Montmarche girl was the one responsible for the vandalism at the Pokeball Factory that employed the townsfolk not involved in tourist trades. She found herself shooed from shops instead of welcomed, and a few of the kids started roaming in a pack to taunt and tease her. Vivi was understandably miserable. She finally begged her parents to let her go on an adventure and see the world. They were wary, especially given her history. Grandfather Montmarche offered a compromise; he'd help pay the steep tuition at a Pokemon Academy if she'd give it her all to actually finish.
A challenge from the old coot who had wrecked her games at home? It was on. Unfortunately, the old man had one more stipulation that nearly made her quit on the spot: her darling little Klefki was going to need to be left behind. Something about sending her off with her old partner in crime didn't sound too good to the adults.
