The Aria of Battle (Cal/Battle)

Tanya ran ahead and started to stretch, preparing herself for the battle. She was glad to be facing a new challenger as well as trying out some of her pokemon. She wanted to finish off training her Combee to get it to evolve into a Vespiquen. It was hard training the pokemon, but it would hopefully be worth it in the end. Vespiquen was a pretty awesome pokemon after all, even if it had a pretty horrid typing.

Having already decided which pokemon she was going to use in the battle, she had released them and let them stand around while she continued to stretch. To Tanya's right, Natalia was eagerly awaiting her next opponent, smirking at the other trainer as he approached. On Tanya's other side stood Natalie, whose impassive face betrayed no emotion as she observed the trainer entering the beach. Finally, Nicola was dancing in the air above Tanya, smiling incredibly cheerfully in contrast to Tanya's other two pokemon.

"Welcome!" Tanya called out, finishing off her stretches and standing up straight in between her pokemon. "These are the pokemon that I am using. Pick your starting pokemon."

Cal struggled to follow Tanya outside, tripping over his own feet as he tried to catch up to her. By the time he reached her on the beach she was already stretching, and already had her three Pokemon released. Cal analyzed the Pokemon he would be battling, an Absol, an Oshawott, and a Combee. He only had three Pokemon himself, so it wasn't like he could exactly change anything with which he chose. Ren and Ivy were still following him, so he released his final Pokemon, Maeve the Poochyena. She landed on the sand and looked around a bit confused, but when she saw all the Pokemon around it was as if she instantly knew what was going on. She joined Cal's other two Pokemon and they all waited on the side as Cal joined Tanya.

"Nice day for a battle," he said happily as he slipped off his jacket since it was such a beautiful day, leaving himself only in a dark blue tank-top and light blue jeans. He had a thing for blue, that was for sure. He first stretched his arms, rolling his shoulders. Then he leaned side to side, loosening up his mid-section. Lastly he bent down, stretching his legs as far as they would go. When he felt loose and calm he stood back up with a bounce in his step.

"I'll be sending out..." He looked over at his Pokemon for a moment before deciding. "Ren will go first." At hearing his name the Buizel perked up and excitedly ran over to his trainer. The water-type bounced on it's feet a few times, seeming to be ready to get into things. "Let's do this," Cal said as he turned to Tanya with a competitive grin.

"I see you appreciate a pre-match stretch as well." Tanya said to Cal, appreciating the fact that he stretched like she did. The guy seemed to be a pretty awesome dude, even if he liked the color blue a lot. He basically was blue all over, with his hair especially standing out. She didn't mind it too much though, she just found it a little odd.

"If that's your starter, I'll begin with Natalia!" Tanya shouted, throwing her arm downwards for dramatic effect. Natalia, hearing her name, ran excitedly onto the battlefield, stopping in front of the Buizel and looking snidely at the opponent. Tanya stood confidently, her eyes burning with determination as she started to get into the mood of the battle. She threw a smirk at Cal before barking out her first order.

"I'm not gonna go easy on you just because you're new! Natalia, use Swords Dance!" On cue, Natalia began to dance an odd dance, her strength increasing rapidly with each movement she made. She did lament the fact that she didn't have stronger moves to use against the Buizel, but the pokemon was a good one to set up on. At least in her opinion.

He nodded at her first comment with a smile. Indeed a pre-match stretch was a great thing to do. It made him feel more relaxed and ready to battle. Not that he did it all the time, but seeing Tanya doing it made him want to as well. And he was glad he did, because now he felt great and totally had a clear head for this battle. The time for the battle had begun as Tanya sent out her first Pokemon, an Oshawott. Ren sized up his competition, seemingly not too worried since they were of the same type. Cal knew of course this didn't mean either of them could relax, they had no idea how things could turn out. It could be either of their battle at this point. 

"I wouldn't want you going easy on me, because I'm sure not going to go easy on you!" Cal said with a wide smile. His eyes flashed with a teasing glint as he awaited her first move. Tanya opted to use Swords Dance. While it wasn't an attack that would hurt Ren, it made his opponent stronger for the next move. This didn't look good. Keeping the negative thoughts away he crossed his arms and took a deep breath. Here we go. "Ren, use Double Hit!" The Buizel nodded, finally focused unlike he usually was. Ren shot forward aiming the Double Hit right at his foe. Hopefully it would hit, and maybe if he was super lucky it would do critical damage.

Action: Buizel used Double Hit!

If the attack hits, it will hit twice at a BP of 35 each.

Natalia braced herself for the incoming attacks, closing her eyes as the pokemon got hit by a succession of attacks. When the attack had finished, Natalia didn't seem to be that badly hurt from the attack. In fact, with only a few minor scars, the attack didn't seem to be that effective at all. Tanya considered which move to use. While she was tempted to go for the move that didn't suffer from resistances, her other move was more powerful. In the end, she decided to go for the one that she felt would do most damage.

"Natalia, attack your foe with Aqua Tail!" Tanya ordered, a cheeky grin forming on her face. Running towards the Buizel, Natalia started to gather water around her tail, causing a coat to form all around it. Jumping into the air, she flipped once before trying to smash the tail onto the Buizel's head, a cocky smirk on her face as she intended to heavily damage the fellow water pokemon.

Action: Natalia used Aqua Tail!

Ren's attack hit, but really didn't do much damage at all. Sighing, Cal shook his head, he'd have to be smarter next time. Tanya ordered an Aqua Tail, the attack hitting pretty heavily. Since Ren had some resistance it didn't hurt him as much as it could have, but it still had to hurt. Ren winced slightly, shaking the water off and trying to compose himself. "Come on, two can play at that game. Use Aqua Tail right back at her!" Ren took another second to regain his focus, shaking the slight pain from his face. He stood still, letting his double-tipped tail gather a coat of water around it. After glaring at his opponent he sped foward, aiming a heavy hit right back at the Oshawott.

Action: Buizel used Aqua Tail

Responding with a similar attack, Natalia was knocked back, sliding along the floor as the water from the other attack started to cling to her body. Jumping up though, she dusted off her body before angrily pouting at the Buizel. Her battle wounds were starting to show more and Natalia was slightly hunched over, the damage starting to affect her.

"Keep up the pressure! Attack again with Aqua Tail!" Tanya ordered, wondering if it was a good idea to be using such tactics against Cal. While she didn't want to go easy on him, she felt bad about fighting with her pokemon against someone who was newer to the scene. Hopefully he wouldn't be too discouraged if he lost. She didn't want to be the cause of ruining someone's motivation to compete.

Natalia started to gather water in her tail, running towards the Buizel, before jumping up into the air. Flipping once, she used the momentum of the spin to attempt to smash the tail onto the Buizel with all of her power. Tanya was considering teaching some different moves to Natalia when she evolved. It was not the best tactic to use not very effective moves to attack.

Action: Natalia the Oshawott used Aqua Tail! +2 Attack Boost!

Cal grinned slightly as he saw the opposing Pokemon finally showing some of the damage it had taken. Though his grin soon faded as his Buizel was attack again by another Aqua Tail. Even despite the type resistance it still did major damage since the attack was boosted earlier on. This one hit even harder, Ren's legs shaking as he tried to keep standing. His eyes seemed a bit out of it as he wobbled back and forth slightly.

One more hit and his Buizel would be down for sure. He knew Ren didn't have much left in him, so he opted for a move that would be easier on the tired Pokemon. "Let's go out with a bang, use Swift!" Ren grunted, trying to get his vision clear enough to attack. Even Ren knew this would most likely be his last attack and put everything into it. Bright stars began to circle around him, slow at first and then picking up speed as he launched them out and right at the Oshawott. This was sure to hit and do at least some more damage before Ren was knocked out next turn.

Action: Buizel used Swift! 100% Accuracy!

Natalia frowned when the Buizel didn't stay down. She thought that her attack boosts should be more than enough to finish off the Buizel in two strikes. Apparently not though. She crossed her arms and let out an angry huff as the stars flew towards her, slicing her body and causing her to cry out in pain. She was able to push through the pain, but she was starting to pant now.

"Come on Natalia! Let's finish them off with an Aqua Tail!" Tanya encouraged, watching her pokemon go into action again. She seemed to be extra determined to finish off her foe, running with an energy she didn't even have before and smashing her opponent with all of her power. Tanya had to admit, Natalia could probably be terrifying if she wanted to be.

Note: I was surprised he didn't faint too, with the battle calculator I used it said he had like a sliver of health left. So I tried again more carefully just to recheck and he indeed was supposed to faint. Sorry! This will fix that up hopefully.

To Cal's surprise the Oshawott actually missed her third Aqua Tail! Somehow the weak Buizel was able to side step just slightly enough to barely miss the attack. Cal's face stretched into a wide smile, about to praise his Pokemon but that smile soon faded. Ren suddenly looked dizzy, wobbling back and forth on his feet for a few moments before collapsing to the ground out cold. The previous attacks seemed to have taken their toll on the poor guy and caught up to him. Frowning he quickly returned the Buizel and thought for a moment. Glancing over at his two remaining Pokemon he made his decision and hoped it was a good one. "Ivy you're up. Use Poison Tail!" Ivy sighed as if she was more comfortable just watching, but crawled forward anyway. She picked up speed as she approached her foe. Her tail lifted up, glinting with a dark-looking poison as she slashed it into the water-type. If she was lucky it might even poison her opponent!

Action: Venipede used Poison Tail. BP of 50 + STAB = 75 damage. 100% Accuracy.

Roll: 1 Oshawott will be poisoned. 2-10 will not.

Natalia let out an angry sound when her attack missed, her tail smashing into the floor. Tanya made a note that while the move had a chance to miss, Natalia's anger probably contributed to the attack missing. However, it seemed the power of Natalia's attacks were finally getting to the pokemon as he struggled to stay up and eventually collapsed. Natalia crossed her arms and smirked proudly, confident in her victory before promptly being smashed by the tail and falling unconscious.

"Come back Natalia." Tanya said, returning her pokemon to her pokeball. Looking up, she patted Nicola reassuringly, nodding her head and gesturing towards the Venipede. Picking up the cues, the Combee drifted cheerfully onto the battlefield, practically dancing as she entered the battlefield.

"Nicola! Attack with Gust!" Tanya shouted, Nicola hearing her order began to flap her wings rapidly. By doing so, she generated a small gust of wind that she blew towards the Venipede, letting out a happy cry as the attack flew away from her. Sometimes, Tanya had to wonder how clueless she was to the battle and if she ever recognized how much danger she was in.

Action: Natalia fainted! Nicola enters and uses Gust!

Cal smiled victoriously as the Oshawott finally fell. He was pretty sure this battle was lost, but he was happy that he had at least taken out one Pokemon. When Tanya brought out her Combee and used Gust, Cal tried to keep a straight face but couldn't help but look away slightly. He knew this one would hurt, and bad. Ivy was hit by the huge gust of air, curling into a ball as she rolled and landed right at Cal's feet. She let out a small pained sigh as she unrolled and fainted instantly.

"You did good," he said softly, patting her and returning her to his bag. He knew the fight was over, especially seeing what Pokemon was left. Maeve would stand no chance against the Combee. Scratching his head he turned back to Tanya with his normal goofy eye-smile. "Looks like you won, I'd prefer not to have Maeve be put through unneeded pain if that's okay. I forfeit." Although he had lost, this had been a great experience for Cal. He wasn't mad or sad in the least and actually was fairly happy. It was a beautiful day and he had fun, what was there to be angry about? Someone had to lose and it was him. 

With a large yawn he sat down then let himself lay down lazily on the warm sand. He stared up at the bright blue sky, watching the puffy clouds drift across the vast expanse. After a few minutes he looked over at Tanya with a grin. "I suppose we're friends now? You'll be my first."

Tanya was surprised when Nicola managed to knock out the Venipede in one hit. Was the pokemon really that strong? She didn't think about it too hard though and Nicola didn't seem to pay attention to the battle anyways. She was so carefree, singing in the air and dancing to a tune that Tanya didn't know. She enjoyed watching her though for a moment, smiling contently at the bug pokemon.

Returning her pokemon to their pokeballs, Tanya nodded as he explained his reasoning for forfeiting the match. It made her think that she probably should've gone a bit more easy on him. She wasn't going to tell him that though and he seemed to take the loss gracefully. Putting her pokeballs away, Tanya went to lie next to him, looking up at the clear blue sky, not minding that hair was getting into her hair.

"Yeah, I guess we are." Tanya said matter-of-factly, turning to face Cal and flashing him a cheesy grin. "When you get stronger, you've gotta challenge me again. I wanna see what you can do with your pokemon." Tanya declared, sticking her tongue out playfully at Cal.

Cal grinned when Tanya lied down next to him in the sand. He closed his eyes, enjoying the silence and warm sea breeze. In fact if he had been alone he would probably have fallen asleep, but making sure to focus himself he opened his eyes after a few minutes. He looked back over at her and let out a light chuckle. "Yes, I can say my first friend in the academy was Tanya...and she kicked my ass in our first battle!" He continued to laugh, his stomach even hurting a bit as he tried to control himself.

Shaking his head he finally was able to stop and took a deep breath to compose himself. "You got me this time, I'm such a newbie when it comes to battling," he mocked glared at her with a scowl. "Just you wait, when I get better and my Pokemon get stronger...we'll totally have an epic rematch." He ended the sentence with his goofy grin and stuck his tongue out back at her. He could get used to this academy life, it sure was fun.

"You bet I did!" Tanya remarked teasingly, winking at Cal before letting out a heartful laugh. Tanya took a moment to take in the breeze, breathing in heavily to let it flow through her body. It was peaceful and relaxing, a start contrast to the issue of Team Origin and the drama that originated from that. It was like her worries melted away, lying here as time went by.

"Yeah yeah I know." Tanya dismissed playfully, rolling her eyes sarcastically before grinning cheekily again. "It should be fun though and don't get too caught up in the whole rematch thing. Make the most of your time here." She laid down quietly, letting the wind blow her hair around and letting the sounds of the waves play in the background. She felt so relaxed and she felt like she had to make an effort to stay awake at times. A quick thought came to her though and she turned to face Cal once again with a teasing look.

"You do know I'm still going to kick your ass when we have that rematch, right?" Tanya asked playfully.
