Vivienne's adventure into the garden yesterday had yielded her a Kangskhan in the end, and she was feeling fairly confident upon her return. Even if she had flinched at the power her newfound partner had out of fear in order to protect her Budew, Vivienne was determined to grow stronger if only to rub it in her Gramps face when she returned. Considering one third of her team was just a baby and another third was her only fairy type, Vivi had returned to the Garden of the Sun in order to look for another member of her team. According to a pamphlet she'd found in the dorms, the Garden of the Sun was a practical breeding ground for her favorite type, and she was determined to at least even out her team with them that day. With a confident smile and Marmalade waddling along beside her, she took a different path into the growing flowers, looking for another fairy for the growing troupe.

The Pokemon they passed during the walk was cute, pink, and definitely seemed the friendly type, but he wasn't a fairy type. Though the Budew started to cackle, which for a baby Pokemon was more a giggle, Vivienne simply picked her up and continued on her way, nodding the Audino as she went. She didn't see the point in attacking a wild Pokemon without provocation on it's part, especially one she had zero plans for. The pair continued on, into the growing flowers, keeping their eyes peeled. Hopefully, she'd have a little more luck just a little further in.

As they passed through a particularly high patch of the sunflowers, they came upon a clearing where a wild Pokemon was munching on what appeared to be a berry. The best part? It was a Fairy type! Vivienne practically squealed when she saw the adorable little pouty face and the stubby little arms of the Snubbull. When the fairy Pokemon noticed the trainer, it cocked it's head to the side slightly, tipping it's ear.
"Uh.....hi there, little one." Vivienne said, waving slightly. "I was wondering if you'd mind joining my team maybe?"
The Snubbull's constantly angry looking eyes narrowed a fraction; was it going to Run Away? Vivienne hoped not. "Of course, I'm not asking you to do it without proving myself first." This hurried statement seemed to make the dog Pokemon pause. "If we beat you fair and square, I'll catch you." She said, the Budew waddling forward on slightly uneasy legs. The dog, after a moment of consideration, hopped forward....smirking? It was hard to tell. Even Vivienne had to admit that the Budew didn't look super threatening; if any of her Pokemon resembled a pushover, it was Marmalade. Of course, it was a great disguise for the fact that Marmalade was a tad....bloodthirsty, at times, so to speak.
The battle began with a simple word from Vivienne, "Growth."
The Budew's body seemed to glow slightly greenish for a brief second, and possibly even a little taller by a fraction. The Snubbull, cocking it's head to the side, proceeded to dart forward, grabbing the Budew with it's stubby little arms and smiling as it spun; it proceeded to slam the Budew into the ground, faint sparkles coming from it's body. So that was Play Rough, the physical Fairy type move in effect. Coming off of Snubbull's rather impressive physical attack, it would've hurt, even knocked out, some Pokemon. The only thing that saved the injured Budew from such a fate was her innate resistance to fairy attacks, afforded to her by her poisonous nature. "Alright Marmalade, you can do this!" Vivienne called, the little plant getting to her feet. She looked beat up already, after a single attack. "Let's get some of that energy back! Use Mega Drain!" The bud's twisted, overgrown arms on top of it's head popped open somewhat, shooting out several green energy vines that pierced the Snubbull, draining it of health and restoring the Budew's in the process.
The Snubbull growled at the sharp pain it felt, lowering it's face and glaring at the Budew for a moment to try blanching her nerve. "Don't let it stare you down Marmalade! Why not give it a whiff of your Stun Spore?" The Budew complied, releasing a pollen twister right into the Snubbull's face. The Snubbull started sneezing violently, trying to wipe the pollen from it's nostrils. The Budew was pleased with herself, until of course she found herself tackled by the Snubbull and pushed back to her trainer. Even such a weak hit hurt the baby Pokemon coming from the Snubbull's power, and as she kneeled to check on her, Vivienne pulled out a Potion and sprayed it on the Budew. The restorative power of it had the little plant back at her full pep, or nearly it. The Snubbull, looking aggravated, began to charge once more, only to find it's body....uncooperative.
"Now, while it's paralyzed, let's use Growth again!" The Budew's body flashed green as her arms seemed to lengthen just a bit. The Snubbull, snapping out of paralysis, charged in headfirst, headbutting the Budew backwards. It was a stronger move than Tackle, but the Potion had helped her enough to survive the blow. "Mega Drain!" Her trainer called, and Marmalade followed the order. The energy vines leeching the Snubbull's health were getting more numerous, and vigorous. After that hit, it was the Snubbull's turn to start breathing heavily. The damage it had done with the Headbutt hadn't been fully recovered, but the Budew was starting to show noticeable improvement after using the move.
The Snubbull's spotted body started flecking sparkles again, and Vivienne bit her lip. Was it going to use another Play Rough? When it began to move forward though, it found it's footsteps sluggish, then halted. Paralysis strikes again! "Don't let this opportunity go to waste! Use your Mega Drain once more!"
The Snubbull had approached the battle assuming it would bulldoze the little plant in a single hit. Finding itself on the receiving end of having it's life force drained....not part of that plan. When the vines lashed into it, sucking more of it's lifeforce out, it fell back with a thud. "Here's my shot. Let's hope this works." Vivienne said, lobbing the Academy Ball at the Snubbull and offering a silent prayer to Arceus that the paralysis and fair amount of damage they'd done had been enough.
{Battle Overview} Budew used Growth! Snubbull used Play Rough! It wasn't very effective... Budew used Mega Drain! Budew regained health! Snubbull used Scary Face! Budew's Speed Fell! Suck them dry! Leave not a drop!
Oh, and take the husk.
Deduct a ball, and remember to remove that Potion you used, too.

Vivienne watched with baited breath as the ball rocked once, twice, then settled and clicked. She grinned down at the little Budew. "We did it!" She scooped the Bud up, spinning around once. "You were great Marmalade!" She hugged her Pokemon before trotting over and picking up the Pokeball. She paused for a moment, thinking of the various candies and sweets she'd been using to nickname her Pokemon thus far. A small smile broke on her face as she considered one of the Snubbull's most dominant features, it's ears. "Palmier, like Grandma used to make." She settled on the pastry, more commonly known as Palm Trees or Elephant Ears, for it's unique shape. A suitable nickname for her new friend, of that she was certain.
