#1 Pokemon Breeding 101─Deirdre Brennan

Crispin sat and tried to absorb everything the teacher said. Well, it definitely seemed like the class was picking up at the very least. There seemed to be a lot more to the breeding than he thought, all of which he didn't quite understand. Although, she did make a point of how bonds with Pokemon made a difference. While he could almost understand that from how hard of a time he had with his Abra before the Acadamy, he couldn't help but sit in wonder of how that helped with breeding. Perhaps they were more likely to have eggs with a good bond? No, he had heard that they would have eggs regardless. He contemplated asking. There was only one other question asked, hoping to discern the exact reason for the eggs needing heat. He furrowed his brow, looking to the girl, his own question forgotten. They just... did, didn't they? For the same reason birds' eggs did.

To see nearly the entire class go silent in confusion did not do well to ease Deirdre’s nerves. It seemed the vast majority of them didn’t understand how bonds could be important at all, and the teacher could almost feel her face falling. That was one of the sole reasons she had become a breeder to begin with. Other than the fact that’s what her parents did, of course. Still, it was just the first day; she didn’t plan on going too far into detail. It was good to see at least where most of the class was. One student alone spoke up with a question, and for a moment she turned with excitement.
It was about how the heat itself could work, and that momentary excitement bled away quickly. The smile still reaching her eyes, although barely, Deirdre nodded as she mulled over how to exactly answer the question. She glanced at the student that was late to the class, nodding to her as she took her seat before beginning her explanation. “It mainly boils down to how much energy is produced by the embryos as they try to grow inside of the egg. While they grow, they expand mass amounts of energy. Their shells are extremely tough, able to withstand almost any amount of damage or extreme temperatures from the outside, allowing them to react to their surroundings without danger of harming their contents. The heat produced by Pokemon like Quince gives the embryos more energy to expand, allowing them to grow quicker.” There, she thought. That should explain how the process of hatching them worked.
Throughout her explanation, the movement in the corner of her eye grew more and more aggravating. It was one of the few students to greet her as they entered, yet to also not release any of his Pokemon. As she finished her answer to the first student’s question, she could feel her nerve finally snap. Glancing to the eraser, the Sylveon in her arms reacted without a word. Plum jumped from her person’s arms, walking near the student’s desk and grabbing the eraser in midair with a ribbon feeler, putting it down flat on the desk. The Pokemon’s blue eyes watched the student without blinking, before turning to pat down the isles.
Deirdre had turned her full attention to the student, frowning. “Mr. Morison, at least pretend to pay attention to my class. The door is right there if you do not intend to be here to learn.” She was annoyed, that much was obvious. Despite the woman’s kind nature, her fuse was short when it came to others being outright rude. Looking back over the rest of the class, she softly cleared her throat, almost embarrassed by her outburst. “Now… where were we. Ah. As I was saying earlier, this class plans to cover the basics; though not all at once. Today I planned on explaining to most of you what I hope to cover during future classes, so don’t panic. I won’t be overwhelming you with information all at once. Also, I─” she stopped, interrupted by the Rapidash in the back of the room. He tapped his hoof insistently, making the teacher smile wide.
“Yes, good! I knew it should be soon, I’m glad to be able to show all of you. I’m sure some of you have had eggs before, but it’s still amazing getting the chance to see them hatch.” Hurrying to the back as quickly as she could manage, she made sure to keep the students themselves a safe distance away if they decided to come see. One by one, the eggs next to the Rapidash started to slowly crack. Before long sat three Pokemon; a Shinx, a Cubone, and an Absol. All three babies blinked around at their surroundings, obviously confused. The Luxray finally stood, trotting to the back to check on the babies, the Shinx in particular.
Deirdre grinned ear to ear, eagerly looking at the students in hopes to see equally excited faces. Regardless of what she saw, she turned and nodded. “I think this would be a fantastic way to end day one. Next time we will be putting most of our focus on compatibility with parents, such as gender and type grouping. I won’t be having you all leave empty handed today, though. Miss. Christianson, Miss Geissler, and Miss Kirrlov; thank you for your participation in class. I’d like for you to each take one of the babies here.” As she spoke, she knelt with difficulty and picked up each of the Pokemon, handing them out at random. To Oleg went the Cubone, to Alice went the Absol, and to Tanya went the Shinx. “For the rest of you who weren’t late─I’m sorry, miss, but I promise I will give more rewards for attendance in future class─I have other newly laid eggs I have permission to hand out.”
Standing back up, she made her way over to one of the closets and opened it wide. It was easy to see it was full of Pokemon eggs and the teacher turned back around, beaming widely. “One at a time, please. After you’ve gotten your egg you’re welcome to leave. I look forward to seeing you all for the next class.” One by one she dispersed the eggs, randomly grabbing them from the closet as she handed them to each student. “Be sure to care for them well, I look forward to seeing the results.”
The babies were chosen at random to those who participated; and the eggs were generated randomly for the rest of class. The hatchlings' information: Shinx; Male, Rivalry─ Leer, Thunder Fang, Swagger, Discharge, and the egg move Helping Hand Cubone; Female, Lightning Rod─ Bone Club, Fling, Tail Whip, Rage, and the egg move Screech Absol; Male, Super Luck─Detect, Future Sight, Swords Dance, Slash, and the egg move Perish Song
The rest of the egg dispersion: To Annie goes a Hoothoot egg. To Kyrie goes a Igglybuff egg. To William goes an Onyx egg. To Seria goes a Hippopotas egg. To Sonia goes a Pineco egg. To Astrid goes a Lillipup egg. To Crispin goes a Skitty egg. To Cameron goes a Darumaka egg. To Adolfina goes a Mareep egg. Be sure to claim your egg (or hatchling) in the final parting notes (like this little section here) of your post. If anyone doesn't claim their eggs before I close the thread, the egg will be lost. Once you have the egg, you're welcome to do what you will with it; whether you want to trade it with another student or not is up to you.

Oleg watched as the eggs hatched, blinking a bit as it just sort of happened, tilting his head at the three babies. He then blinked once more as the teacher awkwardly picked up each baby one by one before plonking the cubone infront of himself. He simply stared at it, the baby staring back at him with keen interest. He continued staring for a moment before patting the bone pokemons head, smiling at it as he then took out a ball, plonking it on the cubone's head as he then captured it. He stuffed the ball to his backpack, calling all his pokemon back as he then rose up, bowing his head to the teacher and left.

After a while he had spaced out. There was talk of eggs and flaming bodies, which seemed very inconvenient and unhealthy but he wasn’t going to judge how people lived their lives. It was all over now, thankfully. He was lost, very lost, though he just followed the crowd to pick up his assignment of sorts. “So I gotta look after my new buddy?” he stared at the red egg with yellow markings then to his teacher. It felt weird, "I'm a dad." he was a parent now. A real parent, with a baby to look after, this meant he'd need to settle down an- oh, it was only a pokemon egg. Even still, he was kind of a parent. “I think its hungry.” He said flatly. “I’m gonna go feed it.” He added, heading towards the exit to leave the classroom. “Don’t worry Benedict, I’m gonna get you a nice big slice of steak. And you will be a-okay. . . I love you Bobby.” he admitted, albeit, giving the egg a different name. As he left the classroom it was plainly obvious that this egg was in the most capable of hands.

Tanya eagerly took down notes in response to Ms. Brennan's answer, making sure to get as much detail as she could into her notebook. She was glad that she had the foresight to actually bring a notebook to class. She didn't want to have to worry about memorizing it in class and could review it once she got back to her dorm. It seemed to be a foolproof method.
She was glad she looked like she payed attention in class, unlike one of the other kids, who promptly received a wake-up call by the teacher. She bit her lip as she realized that her teacher could be pretty scary when she wanted to be.
When the eggs began to hatch though, Tanya was one of the first kids who immediately jumped out of her seat to watch the pokemon eggs hatching. She was witnessing the beauty of birth of pokemon. When the baby pokemon came out, she couldn't help but let out a squee of delight. They were just so cute!
She nearly died when she was told that she was going to receive one of the pokemon. She stood, her mouth agape as the baby Shinx was promptly put into her hands. Looking up towards his new trainer happily, the Shinx nuzzled Tanya's chest.
"T-t-thank you miss!" Tanya exclaimed, bowing her head quickly before getting to her things. The Skrelp seemed to be interested in the new pokemon as she tried to get a better look at the Shinx.
That was a nice end to class. She quickly made her way out, excited about the opportunities she just had from being there. This could be good.

And the class was over. The teacher had thanked her for her participation and in return, had a strange egg with a dark blotch on it which soon hatched into...an Absol. She could tell that he was a baby as he looked at her with child-like curiosity. Another Pokemon from the Hoenn region was always interesting and he looked like he could be a good teammate to the rest of her team. She ruffled his fur and it felt so soft, not to mention that the baby had to be taken care of. He nuzzled her back in return. Isabeau blinked at the baby curiously though she did approve that he could be on the team. With that in mind, she motioned for the baby Absol to follow her and the possessed ghost sword floated at her side as they left the classroom. Today had been an interesting day to say the least.

Sonia stirred as the various students began to get up from their desks and grab eggs after the lesson. Looking up, she soon realized that she had completely fallen asleep and slept through the entire lesson. Looking around, she sighed, thinking that nobody seemed to really notice. That or they just didn't care. Either way, it seemed that each student was left an egg to care for. This was breeding class after all. Thankfully, Sonia doubted that she missed much in regards to a lesson. There was probably a few notes here or there and then telling them that they were getting eggs. Cool. All summed up. Rising from her desk and returning her Growlithe to its ball, Sonia walked up and grabbed the egg that seemed to be hers. After that, she walked out, ready to hatch yet another egg for herself. Action: Receiving Egg and leaving.

Crispin was a little in shock when the eggs started to hatch. Sure, it was a breeding class, but he hadn't expected to see Pokemon be born on the first day. After watching for a moment in awe, he watched the others with a twang of jealousy as they were given the newborns. The jealousy didn't last long as he suddenly found himself being given an egg of his own to look after. Was this his homework, then? If so, this was something he could get behind. Cradling the small pink egg he beamed down at Cecillia. The Snubbull looked up in confusion, blinking. She looked over at the newborns, cocking her head as she tried to figure out what was going on. Crispin thanked the teacher, nodding to his classmates as he turned to leave the room. Even if the class ended up being far more interesting then he expected, he was already getting antsy to do something else.
Took the Skit skit egg and skedaddled.

Annie had certainly enjoyed this class. Bonding with her Pokémon was something she was absolutely in favor of, and she could sympathize with Ms. Brennan's nervousness--though she didn't show such things herself.
Then the teacher was interrupted by the eggs hatching. Annie watched with some delight as the tiny creatures broke free from their eggs. And she suddenly regretted not speaking up in class, as those who had spoken were allowed to take one of the new hatchlings each themselves.
Still, it was fairly wonderful. And, holding her Snorunt close in one arm, she accepted an egg with the other hand and held that close too. Then she left the class, with a respectful nod to the teacher, entirely satisfied with the situation. Showing up to class was proving to be a very good idea.

Post by Kyrie Vyler on Jul 3, 2014 0:38:15 GMT
Oh. So that's how it worked. With a tough outside the inside didn't get cooked. Though she still had to wonder, if that was the case then how did they get any warmth from normal methods? That's probably where the 'half-time' came in, more heat meant less time spent carrying the egg. Her attention came back to reality when the syvleon hopped off it's perch and dealt with one of the more obvious students that weren't paying attention. Apparently they didn't know how to skillfully go to lala-land. Well, it was no problem of hers. The girl contented herself to petting her espeon who loved every second of it.
She snapped back to attention when there was a sudden commotion with the eggs hatching in the back. Kyrie was tempted to get up and go view the miracle of life but she opted to stay in her seat, merely turning in her seat to see if she could peak through crack of the students. When they did pop out of their eggs, with what Kyrie could see; the sight gave her that maternal 'awe'. Something that she wouldn't say out loud but she still had that squeeze in her chest. Then came the candy that was after the medicine, as the just born pokemon went to three students, the rest of them received a baby on the way out of class.
Kyrie for one eyed the egg she received, careful to balance both the pink oval and Mammon who sat on her shoulder. Thankfully the espeon was nice enough to hop down and trot alongside her, especially after the light thing seemed to almost hop. It didn't look like it was going to hatch so when it did do that little movement, Kyrie was more than a little freaked out. She hugged it close, keeping a careful eye on it to see if it would suddenly sprout legs and run away (since eggs totally do that).

Post by Seria Floria on Jul 3, 2014 2:29:26 GMT
Seria blinked as the teacher answered the question posed by Tanya. It was an answer that should come as obvious from common sense, but Seria supposed that it wouldn't probably come immediately to someone who wasn't exposed to breeding at all. Then, she scolded the boy playing with his eraser. Seria expected that one. Eventually, the Rapidash began to react somewhat passionately, and Seria turned and witnessed the three eggs hatching. Two of them were babies of the Pokemon currently in the room, as mentioned - the Shinx and the Absol in particular, but the third one seemed out of place. And true to the teacher's word, none of them were the Rapidash's eggs. Seria smiled at the sight and silently watched as the teacher went off and handed some of the newborns to some of the students.
It looked like the teacher had a lot of eggs to hand out as well.
Seria fell in line as instructed, and patiently waited until it was her turn. Once it was, Seria took the egg graciously and thanked the teacher. "Thank you Miss!" she said before carrying the unusually heavy egg and then going on her way.
Note: Received Hippopotas Egg!

Lilith bit down on her bottom lip, as she watched her fellow students obtain the Pokemon and eggs given from the professor for actually participating in class and arriving there on time. She wouldn't help, but to feel slightly disappointed and upset with herself. Why did she had to arrive to class late? Not only did she miss out on the lecture, but also the chance to be given a free egg. Sighing, she would slowly slide out of her chair and gather up her things. Meanwhile, Bellatrix would simply glance up at her trainer, staring into her sad eyes. A soft purr would escape from the Espurr mouth as she started to feel her trainer's emotions. After gathering up her things, she would give the teacher and her fellow students one last glance. It was nice to see that the majority of the students were excited about their eggs, but at the same time it was quite upsetting that she did not get one for showing up to class, even though she was extremely late. Bowing her head to the teacher and the students, she would then make her exit out of the classroom. She would probably ever forgive herself making it to class late.

It seemed that class was nearing the climax. An explanation came for the process of eggs hatching, and then the actual event occurred. The three eggs the flaming horse tended to hatched, and the hatchlings were handed out to three students. Well, that was fine. She didn't see herself needing any of the three in question any time soon. Though, she was pretty sure Miss Brennan called for three females, yet two girls and a boy received the hatchlings. Nobody else seemed to notice. Then again, why was she, of all people, noticing and caring about a detail like that? It had nothing to do with her or her progress, after all. Perhaps it was just her mind playing tricks on her.
Which was odd, given that she was paying close enough attention.
All the same, the multitude of students made their way through the motions and got their eggs. The blonde was in no rush. While she was fine with hatching eggs and the like, she did not particularly care for the idea of growing a baby to a battle-capable state. It wasn't a matter of morals, but a matter of efficiency. Of course, she was not going to decline free resources, either. How everything played out would depend on the actual egg. And, once she got up there, she had what seemed to be a Mareep egg handed to her. At the very least, that was what she thought it was. Needed to do a bit of research to be sure, but, assuming she was right, she had a potential addition to her team in her hands.
It was something to consider, at the very least.
With a slow, respectful nod, she carefully gripped the egg and paced out of the room, Diablo hip-hopping at her side. Regardless of what the egg hatched into, she wouldn't trade or sell it. She would respect her teachers until the day she overcame them. Even if she wondered if she would really consider breeding a topic worth succeeding her teachers in.

Astrid had to admit, she wasn't fully paying attention to the class. She acknowledged the answer to the teacher's question, and managed to listen closely enough to her explanation to get the gist of what she was saying. But she wasn't really into it. That was how the class passed for her. Thankfully, it was pretty short, and her attention was grabbed again as the teacher handed out eggs to those who got there on time. Astrid did took, recognizing hers as a Lillipup egg, then quickly made her way out. Despite her disinterest, though, she was feeling a little more intrigued by the end of it. Maybe the next few classes would be better.

And that was that. One by one the students left the room, and one by one they took their prize. There were a few hiccups, but all in all Ms. Brennan was pretty pleased with her first class. At the very least, the students seemed in awe at their ‘homework’, so that was a plus. She realized while handing out the newborns she must had been paying far too much attention to the name cards and not enough to the students themselves, since the student who received the one was definitely no ‘miss’. Still, no one seemed to notice, so she just made a note to herself that perhaps she should stick to a first name basis with her students from here on out. For now, the first class drew to a close; hopefully the beginning of many more. Melon leaned up against her side, purring loudly as she slumped against him for support, mentally exhausted. She would get used to it, of course, but today just showed her how hectic keeping children in line could be.
