Zubattle Dome [Astrid-Battle]

Again the bastard found himself walking into the dome. This time it wasn't his first fight, although having just one previous didn't leave him with any sort of an amazing record either. Not to mention the last one was quite the close call. That was the reason Crispin was here, though. More trainer battles meant more practice, and his team needed all the practice they could get. Valdis and Zephyr were doing very well, and he had hoped with any luck with a bit more training they could get closer to the top of their game. Sure, it wasn't like he expected them to just have a couple fights and suddenly be unstoppable, but it was a start.

Astrid made her way into the battle dome, in what was becoming a semi-regular occurrence. She hadn't made any plans. Just showed up for whoever was there. Fighting like this was fun, though! She was never really sure what to expect from any of them. There'd been some easy matches, and some pretty hard ones.
This time, however, she was just looking to get some of her newer and less experienced team members a leg up. Quadraxis was looking like he could take down anything at this point, and even Xanadu and Lunatic were much stronger now than when first got them. But, she'd still barely used other Pokemon she'd caught. Today, if her opponent allowed it, she would remedy that.
As she stepped into the arena, she recognized her opponent immediately. "Oh, you're that guy from the cafe," Astrid said, smiling. "Crispin, was it? How do you want to do this?"

Looking over to his opponent he smiled wide, waving. "Ah, aye indeed! Yer... Astrid, roi? An' ah tart maybe jist a queck two on two, non-evolved set wud be gran'. A wan on wan wud work too, wi' jist two total. Whatever yer ahkey wi'." He had hoped the other would be fine with the conditions, as he hadn't really thought too far into anything else. He supposed even a match with more Pokemon would be fine, although Jove was the only one on his team evolved at all. He just hoped to give some of his team the practice that the others had more of.
He reached to his belt, tilting his head as he waited for the other trainer to agree with the conditions.

"Two on two is just fine by me," Astrid said. She looked up towards the stands after agreeing to the terms, noting that there really wasn't much of an audience this time. In that case, she wouldn't go all-out with the showmanship. That was good, it got to be pretty tiring. "Alright then, I'll start us off. Come out, Ollie!"
Astrid spun on the spot, pulling Ollie's pokeball from her belt and throwing it out at the end of her spin. The ball opened midair, depositing the Scraggy on the field. She dropped into a fighting stance, raring to go, but then looked around curiously as she realized that she didn't have an opponent yet.

He nodded, glad the terms were okay. It shouldn't take too long this way, but give him a chance to learn what he was doing a bit better. "Awright den, gud luk!" Reaching to his side, he chose the first one and released it. "Z, yer up! Start aff wi' a Win' Attack!" The Zubat materialized in the air, fluttering around for a moment as he gained his bearings. After settling, he focused his eyeless face on his opponent. Flapping his wings for a moment he dove, battering the other Pokemon with them before darting back away to where it was moments before.
Crispin was surprised by the other trainer's method of release. His last opponent was a little flashy when she sent out her Pokemon, too; was it something he was missing? He just always sort of... sent them out. He wondered idly if he was supposed to put on a show when he was in a trainer battle too or not.

A Zubat, huh? That was pretty neat. That would give her a chance to learn about her own Zubat's strengths and weaknesses from the other side. It then opened with a wing attack, which Astrid immediately took as a bad sign. Even Ollie, with her lack of danger recognition, braced herself as the bat came swooping down on it and battered it with its wings. But when the assault ended, Ollie was still standing and...in reasonably good condition.
"Whew, score one for defense!" Astrid said as Ollie lifted her head up, staring down the eyeless opponent. "Now let's go for the counter! Head Smash!" The Scraggy nodded, tucking its head in and running towards the Zubat. Once it was close enough it jumped, trying to slam headlong into the bat.

As the girl was so keen to shout, the fact that the scraggy was still standing spoke leagues for it's defense. Crispin gritted his teeth as the other Pokemon lowered it's head to charge, though. The move sounded, and looked, plenty more intimidating then Cecillia's normal Headbutt. He definitely didn't want Zephyr to be on the receiving end of that. Crispin called out, gesturing for the bat to try and move, "Watch oyt, Z!"
The bat flapped around, gaining altitude the best he could at the last second. Thankfully it was enough, and the attack just barely missed. Crispin breathed in relief, shaking his head. That could have been very dangerous. "Awright, again. Wing Attack!" Zephyr swooped back down as the Scraggy landed from it's attack, battering it with his wings.

Of course it would miss. Of course it would miss. And because of that, Ollie was put on the end of another battering from the Zubat's wings. She nearly fell over, but managed to stay standing, unsteady on her feet and looking seriously hurt. But still standing. "What do you think? One more try?" Astrid asked. The Scraggy nodded. Reckless little girl she was, but Astrid couldn't fault her for not having guts. Even though the sheer backlash of the attack would almost certainly knock Ollie out, she still wanted one more shot. "Alright, one more try! Head Smash!" Astrid called out. Again, Ollie tucked its head in, ran, and jumped, putting more force into the jump and trying to account for where the Zubat might move. Only seconds would tell if it was successful.

The process repeated itself, and Crispin hoped his luck would stand. The Zubat flailed momentarily as the Scraggy charged at him, moving to the side as fast as he could to keep from getting hurt─and it worked again. Crispin couldn't help but cheer out loud. The little bat was proving to hold his own quite well! On the other hand, the poor Scraggy looked worse for the wear. Crispin felt bad, but he couldn't let it get to him. That was how these things worked, after all. "Wing Attack again, Z!" The bat circled the air while the Scraggy landed on it's feet, charging her when she did. Once more he battered the worn down Pokemon with his wings, swooping back away right after.

And that was that. Ollie had missed again, and in the counterattack had been knocked out. She fell to the ground, flailing her arms a bit before going limp. "Sorry about that," Astrid said, recalling the Scraggy. "I'll see to it that we do better next time."
She looked up at Crispin. "Well, that was embarrassing," she said, casually. "But I'm not giving up until the very end!" She quickly replaced Ollie's ball and grabbed O'Batahan's. "Go, O'Batahan!" Astrid called out, throwing the ball into the air. It opened, releasing another Zubat from within. O'Batahan flapped its wings aggressively to keep altitude, managing to come to a stop in midair. "Alright, now use Wing Attack!" In a display very similar to what the opposing Zubat had enacted on the Scraggy, O'Batahan flew at it and began an attacking run, attempting to batter it with multiple blows from its wings.

Smiling over to the other trainer he shrugged, shaking his head as he replied, "'Ey, what's life withoyt a few embarrassin' moments? Glad te see yer still in te game, though!" Watching curiously as she summoned her next Pokemon, Crispin could almost have laughed. So, they were both trying to train their little bats up a bit. It was to be a fight of the Zubat, it seemed. Watching as his own bat was battered with the others wings, he thought for a brief moment.
Unlike the Scraggy, Zubat weren't weak to flying moves, so at this rate it would be just a flutter of wings to see who would wear down first. Instead, he decided he would test his luck even further to see if he could stop the other from taking their turn. "Z, use Bite!" Squirming his way away from the other bat's assault, Zephyr turned around on it and sank his fangs in as sharply as he could.

Crispin changed tactics after his Zubat was battered by her own's attacks. He instead opted to try biting hers. Which was not really ideal, since biting wouldn't be quite as effective. But, Astrid could tell why he'd do that the moment it happened. The moment the other bat managed to clamp its fangs down on O'Batahan, he flinched, missing his chance to continue his assault. "Wha-?!" Astrid exclaimed. It was the exact same tactic she'd used against Tanya's Munna to prevent it from stalling Quadraxis out.
"Man, this battle is just not going my way," Astrid said, kind of disappointed. There was very little chance of her winning now. She'd still try, of course, but with her chosen Pokemon for this fight either outmatched or beset by terrible luck (she wasn't going to assume one way or the other), her chances were extremely slim.

While he did feel a bit bad for the other trainer's luck, he was thrilled with his own. The other Zubat shirked back from his attack, which provided Crispin with an opening he planned to utilize. "Z, com back! 'Tis yer turn, Val." He recalled the Flapping Zubat, releasing the blue dog in his stead. Valdis stood tall in the stadium, wriggling her little stump of a tail in excitement. As soon as she saw her opponent she got as serious as she could, focusing on it and holding her ground. Crispin waited now, choosing to recall Zephyr in exchange for the Houndour. Not only was it to get her practice fighting, but he knew she had the highest potential to do some damage, and Zephyr would have only been effective to a certain point.

Eh? Crispin was...switching? Why? He already had a solid advantage, why did he need to swap out? ...Oh well, Astrid wasn't going to question it. It gave her a much-needed chance to get back the advantage, should there be any advantage left to get back. She had a strategy in mind, but it was a complete and total crapshoot, and given how things had gone so far, that was all but guaranteed not to end well.
Still, it was what she had left.
"O'Batahan, Supersonic!" Astrid called out. O'Batahan turned towards the Houndour he was now faced again, opening his mouth wide and letting out a high-pitched shriek in hopes of confusing it. Astrid braced herself, hoping for the best. After all, this was the best chance she had left.

As Valdis was hit with the piercing screech, Crispin furrowed his brow nervously. If seemed his luck didn't hold this time, as she stood warily, swerving a bit on her feet. Damn. Still, as long as she could push through the confusion, Crispin had faith she could pull out on top. "Try an' luk past it Val! Use flamethrower!" She looked around for a moment, trying to get a good footing through her dizziness. She coughed for a moment, trying to let loose a plume of flames at the bat but stumbled face first and landed hard instead. Crispin cursed lightly to himself, and just hoped she wouldn't stay confused for long.
Rolls edited into previous post; Valdis hurt herself in confusion, one turn of confusion.
